Like an uninformed moron who hasn't played a PC game other than Counterstrike since Medal of Honor Allied Assualt's release, I purchased a Gainward FX PowerPack! Ultra/780 TV/DVI 256MB 8x/4x AGP . It is basically a cheap FX5600 non ultra w/ dog slow 4ns RAM.

After reading the posts here, I now know I should've purchased a radeon 9600 pro. Anywway, now I'm stuck with it so my question is what speeds can I overclock the core and memory to. I know the core runs at 275, but i don't know what the memory runs at. Also, it has a flimsy stock hsf. What is the best hsf I can get for both the core and memory chips. Please help! I've been out of the game since the GF3!

well one good thing, Gainward tends to up the voltage alittle on there cards. so with this in mind i'd say you should be able to reach around 350mhz(5600 ultra stock speeds) mabe alittle slower! as far as the memory thats hard to say? just have to overclockit and find out?
as far as card coolers i don't think there are too many options out right now for the fx. so you might think of making youre own, out of an old cpu heat sink and fan. and getting some ram sinks!
good luck, and let us know how it does!

go visit the "if you own a GeForce card" thread and check out the charts that is your best bet..

Hi Walldow,
Have you seen this ? :-

fancy doing that ? They got some good results.
Some good news, my GF 5600U is not dead after all, I tried it in another PC and it works fine, so I may be back ! Once I get a new P4 motherboard, one that doesn't have the AGP blown ! :)
I tried measuring the gpu voltage as you suggested but it registered 0v for the card when it was working .. do you use those little pins sticking up on the back of the board ..what am i doing wrong ?

I see what they mean :-

only 2/3 the core in contact by my thinking !

hey ZAKELWE, long time, no see! glad to see you are back in the game. i'm waiting on some new drivers, the 51.75 is vary unstable when overclocked. gave me some bad mojo. i have managed to reach 520mhz, with my heat spreader still on the core. i've been running 475/1000 @1.80 volts for about three weeks now 24/7 trying to burn it in. plan on taking the heat spreader off in onther week or so and going for 550mhz!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the core can handle up too 2.0 volts so fare. the trick is keeping the voltage regs cool! the are only rated at 1.5 volts!
ya i found that out about a mounth ago about the heat spreader! a budy here at the forums, FAFNIR, turned me on too it! you can also do an FX QUADRO mod by moveing the soldered resistor on the chip, that are labled A,B,C. move the resistor from B-C and resolder at A-B!
good luck and hope to see ya back at the ORB.

You should check out RivaTuner at www.guru3d.com
I've heard it's a pretty good software oc tool. I'm going to try it on my 5600 as soon as I solve some cooling issues in my system ;)

I think macci melted all those regs on one card so they look like they need some help with cooling ..be careful !. I see you at 2.1v and 4080 ( nice socre :toast:) so be double careful! I see you are at 50Mhz over my card clock now so I might have to concede, though I will try again before Christmas one last time, at least break 4000. I have some new parts arriving, at elast 3dmark2001 will be wrapped up before the AMD 64 boys barge past :)
Are you going AMD64 yourself ?

It's tough to say. After checking the fx5600's in the other thread... if you're lucky and have some killer cooling... you MIGHT be able to hit as high as 400mhz clock. Although 350mhz shouldn't be too out of the question.
I'll be oc'ing mine in a couple weeks, but with a 92mm fan mounted right next to it. ;)
