For THE best benchmarks check out www.madonion.com (http://www.madonion.com). This site has 3DMark2000, 2001 and Xlr6r or wahtever its called. Be warned, downlaods are not small.

3Dmark2001 - the newest, the best. Not worth considering if U use anything less than a 500, or less than 128MB of RAM
(my score on a Duron 650, 128Meg, GeF 2 MX was a whopping...1838!)

3DMark2000 - older, not as good but OK if u run a <500 processor and <64meg of RAM
(my score is 4411)

What other apps are worth downloading for benchmarking and stress testing? I know there's the Quake 3 demo or UT demo, and something called Sandra and motherboardmonitor. Is there anything else?

3DMark and Quake3 is good indication for real world gaming although Quake3 is optimized more towards Intel chips and Nvidia cards. MDK2 and Unreal Tournament is another popular benchmark for gaming.

Sandra is good CPU and memory benchmark program.

SPEC Viewperf is industry standard benchmark for 3D graphics applications such as 3D Studio Max and Maya. All workstations are benchmarked using this.

There's always stopwatch but I hear it's not that reliable. :)
