I just bought a boxed athlon. I am using an antec case with good airflow and Im not going to overclock the chip. Should I change the heatsink and fan or will I be ok?
Is the stock fan noisy?
If its loud or if it stinks can anyone suggest a good quiet fan?
Thanks

if your not going to overclock your CPU, you should be ok with any approved HSF although I would look at your tempratures as that will see if you have a problem with temprature

If you aren't going to overclock, the stock heat sink should do the job. If you think the fan is too noisy you should look at the 19.1CFM Sanyo Denki fans as a replacement.

You dont need to change the HS, but as far as the fan they dont use the best that are made-a good quiet fan would be more appealing

Where can one get a variety of fans for cheap?
if u r in the UK try:
www.cclcomputers.co.uk (http://www.cclcomputers.co.uk)
or
www.overclockers.co.uk (http://www.overclockers.co.uk)
You might want to look at www.tweaktown.com (http://www.tweaktown.com ) whatever country you come from. They have a lot of Cooling Ads on the site (and kick a$$ case mods)

The size of the fan depends alot on the size of the case. If yours is a mid tower, try a 92mm, full tower use a 120mm. The quietest and best made fans are the Panaflo's. Check out this chart;
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/listeningroom.html
The best 92mm case fan is the Sanyo Denki 92x32 55cfm. Quiet beyone belief and due to being thicker (32 vs 25mm) it handles static pressure better.

I use the Sunon 60mm fan High Speed Model: "KD1206PTB1" it is significantly quieter than competing fans for your CPU heatsink. I replaced the 6800 rpm Delta fan that came on my WBK38 (sounded like a buzz saw) with the SUNON and was very happy with it. It does 23 CFM at 5100 rpm.

Have you tried a slot cooler? I have two case fans and a slot cooler. It isn't even very loud. he loudest thing about my machine is the cd-rom. I have a 1.2(133x10).
