Just wanted to know I just purchased a 1.2 ghz Athlon C 266 fsb and the serial prefix is AVIA not AXIA, question is are these AVIA chips as reliable for OC'ing as the AXIA? I am running on an ASUS A7A133 with 256 MB PC 133 SDRAM cas 2 latency and have had no major trouble so far but I'm hardly pushing the chip at all ( 140 x 10 ) 1.4ghz. Please anyone with info on these AVIA chips please post a reply here.

apparently axias are more overclockable than their avia counterparts. However, as u already have the cpu, why not just try overclocking it, u have nothing to lose. Providing you have a good hsf on your cpu (which u already have, given that u have reached 1.4ghz stable) u wont damage your cpu (although u must remember that overclocking cpus, does reduce the life of the cpu).

Just go for it man, see how high it will go...

The AXIA and AVIA stepping codes are pretty much "A horse apiece".

According to one review of 1Ghz AXIA vs AVIA (forgot where I saw the review), there's not much difference between both. Their AVIA actually overclocked higher than their AXIA. But the difference seems to be at the 3rd line of the stepping code. If the 3rd line begins with a number such as 9, they overclocked poorly around low to mid 1.3Ghz. Didn't matter AXIA or AVIA. If the 3rd line begins with Y, they overclocked much higher to around mid 1.4Ghz.

I found that the AVIA I received was multiplier locked. I have a 1g(266) running @1283 with default voltage. BTW, this was a week 13, so was made after the AXIA 1.33 I have, which was unlocked.

Well as you can see, my "little" AVIA 1ghz is just doing fine. I relize I am at the upper limits of my chip, but I had fun getting there. So far it is very stable, I am testing a DVD-ram drive right now (buddies) and they require alot of CPU power, no problem as of yet. I will update y'all soon if there is. Just a couple days ago I was at 10x133mhz and all the knowledge I learned here has gotten me this far....yea!!, also big thanks to www.tweakfiles.com for all their guidance and freeware. =)
