View Full Version : O/C a Duron 800?
Okay My duron 800 runs at around 37 degress at idel, and around 45 during high tasks. Is this normal?, BTW I am using a Volcano II HSF.
I have a Soltek SL-75KAV mobo: http://www.soltek.com.tw/English/product/75kav.htm
I would also give you my Duron code to have a look at but, there is not way I will take my HSF off, until I get a new one. It was hell of a bitch to get on.
Now I want to O/C my Duron 800 to around 1000MHz, do you think I have a chance?

The tempratures of your Duron are not excessive when your CPU temp exceeds 50c is when you should start showing concern. The Duron 800 is a good overclocker generally, and as long as the CPU is unlocked and there is sufficiant cooling you should be able to get around 1 ghz. Try for a faster FSB if possible.. remember 7.5 x 133 is faster than 10 x 100 even though both give you 1 ghz.. how high a FSB you can run greatly depends upon the quality of your system components and memory.

why can't I just do 8X125?

You may well be able to do 8 x 125 however it will still not be as fast as 7.5 x 133 as the higher bus speed runs all components at a higher speed dues to this fact and this is where the advantage will come, the difference between these two speeds will be minimal but there will be a difference. You may also be able to run higher than 133 mhz FSB.. its all a balance between multiplier x bus speed x vcore.. the best solution takes a little time to find (note :- I run 140 mhz FSB because my RAM and components allow me to do so)

Agree :-)
Try different FSB till you get it stable, WATCH your heat.
