Well, now I've done it. I've puchased the follwing:

AOpen AK73-1394 motherboard www.myaopen.com
256 MB PC150 CAS2 mem http://www.coastmemory.com
$76.50 after shipping = a really good deal.
GeForce2 MX www.pcstop.com
AMD TBird 1420-1520m http://ocz.safeshopper.com/index.htm?849
125W TEC http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&category_name=CTLG_010_019_000_000&product_id=900-8562

They tell me it'll do AT LEAST 1420 with air cooling at 1.85v.

However, what I wanna' do is water cool - with a peltier. What size TEC am I gonna' need with the assumption that I've got a constant supply of room temperature water 30C in summer. I've read all of the theoretical papers about 10 times and I just wanna know what's REALLY being done. I've got a TEC that pulls 8.5A at 15.4v which puts it, I think, in the neighborhood of 125W. Will this be enough to handle 100W from the CPU? I've got a dual out PS (12/15v) from ebay for $20 that will supply that current and then some.

Next, I'm crafting my own waterblock in the spirit of the one's hawked by Tidal Pool. I believe I've seen a good review of these. Any one have any experience with 'em?

ciao

read up on peltiers b4 you take the plunge. And when it comes to overclocking, there is no guarantee on how fast it can run.

At that speed, you will need at the minimum a 156W peltier and preferably a 172W (24V) unit, with excellent water cooling. You'd be better off going with just a quality warer cooling rig like Danger Den or Swiftech.

I've had my eye on some of the stuff from Swiftech for a while, but I'm gonna see what I can do with this home grown waterblock first.

Thanks for the reply btw.
