POST DIRECT LINKS TO ANY DEALS ON FARM MOBO's, MEMORY, PSU's OR ANYTHING ELSE GOOD FOR A FARM. ( Shelving, Racks, Building Supplies too! )

Make sure you check the shipping before bidding on ebay, nothing worse than thinking you got a good deal and then paying more than retail after shipping.

This seller has mATX boards all the time, some with video, some without.

If those were nF2 chipsets, I'd be all over those. I've got a mATX case that's destined for H20 someday, and the K7SEM in it could stand to be upgraded....;)

Mr B I am with you. I still can't find a Nforce2 matx mobo that fits my liking. I have some funding available for this but there are no products I would buy. I think all I want is onboard video, support for 166 bus and cpu voltage adjustments. Then I would be happy and buy about 5 or so systems with retail 1700s as they run at 2075 (12.5*166) fine with the stock hs/fan.

Have my 1700 with an SK-7 on it running 34C full load :) I love this heat sink.

Now someone make my motherboard darnit!!

Just for Posidon and Mr B here it is.

NEWEGG's complete list of Mobo's with Nforce2 Chipset and On board VGA

Now just keep an eye out in the refurbs for any of these boards to get a better deal on it.

Never mind that link. Newegg won't let you link to the seach results anymore

Just go to newegg and advanced seach.

Then use 400mhz as key words, motherboards AMD as the catagory and set 81 as the max price.

Should work and there's an nForce2 ultra for less than $80 in there :D

This is the best deal for a mobo for a farm i have seen. Just a matter of what CPU's it supports...

Audioaficionado
09-25-03, 02:54 PM
Pity none of newegg's nForce2s with video are ultra 400.

You can get some really cheap PCI video cards so the buggers will boot. I'm not sure a board will boot without a video card of some kind.

pik4chu
09-25-03, 04:04 PM
boards can boot w/o vid Im pretty sure, the required things are RAM, CPU, POWER and thats pretty much it (you have to tweak BIOS to keep it from complaining when no mouse or KB are attached). and the OS is your choice, whether knoppix (requires CD) diskless, which needs a floppy or standard, where you just need HDD. Vid is optionial in every thing Ive seen :) but you do have to configure it initially. so, heh.

I think Im gonna grab one or two of those newegg deals. need to get my other rig up and add these two to it, just need a good deal on 128 DDR ram, anyone got a place for it?

Seemed to find a pseudo spec sheet on that MSI mATX mobo for 35ish bux..

http://geek.dealtime.com/xPF-Microstar_Socket_A_MS_6378

It doesn't say the FSB it supports, but I bet it would top at 133? Dunno what the KLe133 is but its a via chipset...maybe it has a 266 supported bus..who knows..

I'm personally thinking of picking up a couple of these boards...and throwing some 1.3GHz tbirds in em....I mean I will have 2 of http://www.directron.com/realpcpsu450.html these....dunno if I should split em tho...that 12v looks like it may barely take it :)

Then again, the 1.3Duron layers are looking a bit better on the wallet

Great thread guys, and gals if thoust shall post in this competition enraged, testosterone filled forum ;)

Thanks FAst420, but decided to get some buffalo PC2700 sticks from neweg for 25$, I also ordered two of thier 1800/mobo deals and will see how things run.. just gotta dig up another PSU, hmmm)

Get that 300w 120mm fan Fortron at newegg for $28 if it doesn't bust the budget.

pik4chu
09-25-03, 11:41 PM
I was considering between teh 250W sparkle or the one you mentioned, but I think I can dig up another PSU around here to use. just emptied my wallet today (~350$ form newegg :) ) so I didnt feel like getting anything I didnt absolutely need for the rigs, I will be canibalizing some parts from computers here. I think a 145W can run an 1800@stock with no problems. But if this works well I may order some more board combos then some PSUs. and proly split the connectors (got plenty of those now, hehe). just need RAM, blah, why should we need ram? that should be an optional component in computers LOL, would knock off 20-40 bucks on each layer hehe. just use the HDD for memory and all would be fine. But thats a whole other story I guess. heh.

*edit* I even calculated this out, witht he board Im getting, take the board combo+PSU+128RAM+1-2gig HDD will run you ~$130 a layer, which isnt that bad at all IMO. Now to Borg the school... *crosses fingers*

Audioaficionado
09-26-03, 12:15 AM
SVC has a boatload of differant kinds of power connectors you could make splits from.

pik4chu
09-26-03, 12:53 AM
Ive recently had various PSUs die (see the something is burning thread) and every PSU I come across that is dead, I completely canibalize it, every cable and fan I can. since its good wire and connectors and of course the fan, so I got several ATX connectors laying around here :)

Gonna get some voltage readings on these PSU's...I got an HDD to simulate some load

BTW, for those who didn't click the link it has 3 speed modes...the 3rd mode is like SLEEPABLE WITH. I mean dang..that is quiet, I'm used to sleeping to prrrreeeettty quiet rooms...like next to no "visible" noise...but ya that thing is quiet...

And obviously gonna get the voltages on the different fan modes :)

Happy shopping!

*edit* results are in!

These may not be as accurate as if you were runnin the system w/the CPU, MOBO and RAM and other onboard goodies, but this was tested w/a 2.3GB NEC HDD back from the days of p1 166's :)

Hi Speed:
5v: 5.06-5.07V
12v: 11.93-11.94V

Mid Speed:
5v: 5.06-5.07V
12v: 11.93-11.94V

Low Speed:
5v: 5.06-5.07V
12v: 11.93-11.94V

Yes, there was not a difference according to my $20 craftsman multimeter. I know its highclass, so none of you can have it ;) :D

Well...thats a bit of testing..hopefully I can get a bit more "accurate" testing done when I actually get the couple layers..

I'm buying one of the 1600+ layers from him fosho :)

BTW, I found out that mwave has palominos! At least I don't think they made tbred 1600+'s :)

http://www.mwave.com/mwave/ProdCPU-ATHLONXP.hmx?UID=&CID=&updepts=CPU&DNAME=%3Cb%3EProcessors%2FCPU%3C%2Fb%3E&Back=ProdCPU-ATHLONXP.hmx?

41 bux for a 1600+ palomino, these things pwnt for o/c'n, you may be able to get a mintor o/c on a farm...that is depending on whats powering it :)

ANd w/the palomino cores, they don't have the SSE probelms that a good portion of tbred 'b's have occasionally...

I don't know if they still sell em really...coz they aren't in the lists for mobo/cpu bundles :/

Here is a link to MSI's website to what appears to be the same board. I think I might get one to find out how well it performs. In fact, I may have to as my Epox 8Kha+ appears to be giving up the ghost. Linky (http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=MS-6378X-L&search_text=ms-6378)

I wouldn't look to it for performance, mainly for a farm or family member's PC. I would get an Nforce2 Chipset, I've tried the 266,333 and 400 chipsets and by far the nforce2 blows them away when it comes to options and overclocking. I would get a board with the Nforce2 chipset if it's your main rig.

You can get ultra 400 nForce2 boards for well under $100. Even the Abit NF7 is under that.

Actualy, I phrased that wrong. Not looking so much for a performance aspect, but how it will work with a 1600 for a possible farm set-up. $35.50 per board is a pretty good price to start a farm with.

*edit* they do have the Epox -8RGA+ for 74 though, and it has onboard everytthing. (and is nforce2 of course). looks like a pretty good deal to me for an nfII board for folding. Also some MSI nf2 boards for 59.00 but dont have onboard video.
