well heres the situation. A dorm room with a 56k connection(ya, i know it sucks), and 2 computers.

I know the obvious windows internet sharing is an option, but is there a way to set it up so the external 56k modem acts like a cable modem, where you have the 56k modem plug into a hub, and the comps plug into the hub?

most external 56k modems i've seen are serial or USB. Anyone have any experience with something like this? or is it even possible?

thanx

I know that you can set up the computer with the modem attached so that the other computer will connect to the internet through the network. I have 3 computers that run FAH set up this way.

With XP, it is effortless. Just follow the prompts when setting up networking.

I don't know of a way to make a dial up connection like a DSL/cable connection.
