How r yas ? im updatin an older comp , new dfi lanparty nf2 board and an xp2600 333fsb , easy enough fitted?? all my old stuff , cd roms dvd and hard drive and so on ,shouldnt need drivers ? So if i plug in my old hd should it boot up ok??
This is maybe easy **** to u guys ,but not to me YET!!

Thanks

Hiya Ireland =)

I strongly suggest before you install the motherboard to back everything up on your hdd, and fresh-install Windows. You might be able to get away with just swapping motherboards, but there's a 99% chance something will screw up bad (not a mobo issue, its a Windows thing heh).

Also go to DFI's site (www.lanparty.com.tw) and get the latest BIOS, RAID DRivers (if you will use RAID or the RAID controller), go to www.nvidia.com and get the latest chipset drivers.

Try to get SP1a on a cd and the worm/blaster patches also, or keep off the net until you install a firewall (if you have decent router like D-LInk DI604 or Linksys etc you dont have to worry...just make sure router's firmware is updated).

on the NF2 board, make sure the lone dipswitch is set to 'other cpu', and you will have to manually set the bus to 166. Make sure AGP frequency is locked at 66Mhz.

I also suggest using the Realtek LAN port and not the Nvidia LAN port.

If you have any other questions, you can PM me, or better than that, post here or email me travis @ dfiweb . com =)

Thanks for the reply :) looks like i might have a problem then ****!!
My computer wont boot at the minute cause my old xp2100 palomino is scrap cause i tried to unlock it and messed up big time !
so i dunno how to backmy stuff up , i thought it was only a matter of stickin in the new mobo and cpu and away it goes ,plus i dont even have a copy of windows on cd , but thats not really a major prob. Suppose i can just give it a try and see how it goes ! The stuff will be here in a few days

cheers fella

Welcome back Ireland ;)

Angry_Games hit it right on the head with the fresh install of windows. This is one corner that I would never suggest be cut. Way too many odd problems could arise down the road.

Ahh you snuck a reply in there while I was typing mine ireland ;) You most likely could boot up windows without reinstalling windows, so that you could back up your files. Question is how well windows will work (IE will cd burner work to burn backup or network card work to copy files off etc). The main problem with not doing a fresh install will be lack of stability or poor performance.

whats the most simple way to back-up my files ? Im not exactly an expert as yas already know :)
I know a lot about women ( yaaaa ya girl ye) , dont have much of a clue about computers, but sayin that , this forum has helped a good bit!
I dont think ive backed up a file in my life , and the more i think about it the more i realise that i had some really important **** on my hdd (not porn )

well...the way i go about it is using XP's Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, as it will take all of my settings, outlook/outlook express emails/boxes, Internet favorites, etc, and puts them in a .dat file. Move this off to a CD or across a network (cd is preferrable).

then find all your documents, saved games, etc.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO SAVE THE ACTUAL GAME OR PROGRAM. YOU CAN SAVE ANY FILE CREATED WITHIN THAT PROGRAM OR SAVED GAME!

things like MS Word docs, spreadsheets, text files, Diablo2 saved games, etc. Pictures. Movies. Music. Anything that is important and you do not have an installation cd for or you dont want to download again. heh...pr0n can be considered important if it is uh...'educational' =)

You wont ruin any hardware by attaching it to the new computer unless at the same instant a lightning bolt slams into your power line, or aliens drop an EMP bomb on your house =)

mainly just make sure you have SP1a and the worm/blaster patches on a cd before you even install Windows again (and again, very important, if you dont have a hardware router, please install a good firewall like Zonealarm or Sygate before going on to the net...you will become infected almost instantly the first time you go for WindowsUpdates!).

To learn how to slipstream SP1a into an existing non-SP WindowsXP cd, read this:

http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/winxp-sp1-bootcd.html

It works like a charm!

Again, please dont hesitate to ask if you have any other questions!

Travis

PS, if you haven't noticed, im your official DFI support tech =)

Thanks very much for your help , nice one! Sorry that i didnt notice before that u were DFI Tech support :) Thats handy to know . U will be gettin paid double by the time your finished with me :)
I dont have a copy of windows, so looks like i will have to go out and buy one AHHHH!!! So its essential to re-install windows ? And would i have to get the same xp pro , or would xp be fine?

Thanks again, i will post here again and let you know how i get on , hopefully my new board and cpu will be here tomorrow.
Speak to u soon

Sorry i forgot to ask , does it matter if you use 2 different brands of memory ? Like say they r both pc3200 but different makes , would that makemuch difference to performance?

you wont be running dual-channel with different sticks, and while it hardly hurts performance on a KT chipset, the NF2's are a lot more picky about their RAM and so it probably might make a bit of difference.

hopefully someone that has non-matching sticks in their NF2 can post here and give a better answer =)

as long as they get along together and with the board, i dont see a problem with two different sticks...tho it truly is best advice to get them matched.

Helloooooooooooo!!!! Well i got my lanparty board andxp2600 cpu, and as i thought i have ran into problems already most likely due to the fact that i am a clown!!

I have everything fitted ( probably not right ) and im tryin to boot up . It boots ok but before it loads windows this message comes up :

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen resart your computer ( tried that ) .
If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer . Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure that it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK/F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

Technical information:
0x0000007b ( 0xf9e49640, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
If all else fails, grab your computer and through it through the nearest window ( it didnt really say that bit )

Whats happnin there , now it could be the most simple of things ! u get so much stuff with that mobo its scary ,maybe i have left somethin of ! I moved my hard drive, but didnt drop it or anything if that makesa difference?
