View Full Version : Need dead slot A Athlon pcb
Yes, just the printed circuit board to remove a couple resistors (hard to find those very small ones) to go up to 750...

Do you still have the old ones?
What do they say?
Let me know, and I might be able to help you out.
BTW: they're not so hard to get, the only problem is that you'll probably have to buy 10 or more at a time.

I sold my old dead Slot A 650 (C) a while back to someone doing the same thing...
He didn't have much luck... Has anyone successfully done this?
I have succesfully done it. I went from 550 to 650. The only problem is I need more resistors to go to 750. It was only luck that switching places with the existing resistors I could made the move, but , still I had to add 1 resistor 100 ohms, (good luck it happens I'm a CET and have smd resistors available, not the desired size tho,) The main issue with this resistors is the size. I have , lets say 1 watt smds, and the ones used by the Atlon are like 1/4 of a watt.

Interesting... This may sound stupid but how do the resistors limit o/c'ing capabilities?

The resistors form part of a circuit or "network" of components that together define how does the multiplier works, also another circuit takes care of the core voltage. If you are able to manipulate both, you can overclock without tampering with the fsb. The resistor involved are 1k ohms or 1000 ohms and also100 ohms(the core voltage section).

I have an AK-72 AMD SlotA mobo w/ AMD 650 lying in my cupboard gathering dust. I can prolly give it to you, but I live in UK. If you live in UK, give me your details and I'll see about posting it to you.
PS. What can I do with a SlotA AMD650? Its too heavy to make a keychain out of.

Sure I'm interested. I'll be glad to have it. Please email me with details...

When I saw this thread, I was about to mention your slot-A. Well, I've been busy lately and not very much on the forum. Seems like they already found you :)

You told me you live in the US. I live in the UK, unless i ship it to you in like snail mail, its going to cost me an absolute bomb. Also, havent you tried RadioShack for capacitors, they stock a wide range of good value ones. Just make sure you know what your looking for.
I think there is an recent article on replacing capacitors for better board stability. And are you sure that it is your board that is causing the problems?
I think this is a lot of hassle for an old system, for the amount of hassle your putting in you might as well invest in a better cpu & mobo.

the radio shack does not carry SMD 1000 ohm resistors nor will they order them-what is the shipping cost? it got to cost less than itll cost me to ship the PCB to you-right?

I ordered some thermaltake ram coolers from the US a couple of days ago. The ram coolers amount to $22, not bad. The shipping costs were a whopping $30!
It got worse. They emailed me and said I would have to pay a further $50 in ups fees and would have to pay other expenses like insurance, taxes, duty, exchange and other bs. Basically to ship 2x$11 thermaltake coolers would cost me over $100. No THANK YOU!
AND, this is a 5 day delivery option. Imagine 2-3 day :)
It costs me £8 just to send something of that size to somewhere in the UK.
I'm sorry, but you will have to find someone in the US w/ a dead slotA pcb.
Thanks anyway Pitspawn, I'll keep looking around...

I got my hopes on LiquidFusion
try this website, they are based out of Los Angeles CA and have excellent prices, www.allelectronics.com
if they dont have them then send me a pic of what they look like and a description and i can go down to the elec supply house where i bought my caps for my slot a board, they seem to have just about everything and what they dont have they can order.
Hope i can help ya

Thanx Tim. I already sent the only sample I had and still waiting for it to come back. If it arrives, I will send it to ya ! I would like to know whats this capacitor thing a couple guys are talking about? I do know what a capacitor is, but what is the issue with em and the mobos? I must think you haven't opened your Athlon's vault, have you? For a better Idea of what I'm doing, take a look at Tom's Hardware Guide: http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/99q3/990826/athlon_overclock-01.html
Enjoy !!!!!!!
caps aka capacitors look like little towers, see pic below, they pop when the get old or too hot or for whatever reason at all. i replaced two of them after the oozed out and everything works fine now, if you have to get new ones then make sure that the uF rating is the same since the voltage rating on them isnt very important, i couldnt find 6.3v caps so i got 10v ones, should never blow again,
yes i have open the vualt, if the block home around the athalon is what you are refering to.
whenever you get me samples is fine or i can try to find out what there are

Itook about 6 resistors off the back of an athlon, directly on the other side of the core. use them? :D only kidding. I wouldn't wanna do it on purpose.
What I did find, when I was doing a quadro mod on my card, I used some old resitors from a p75 motherboard.

What is a "Quadro" modification?
Are the resistors from the PII same as Athlon's ?
