The FX chip really sucks! I bet the R360 doesn't need much more cooling than the R350.
that's disapointing, there they go with the dust buster design again.
Those cards are insanly long as hell too! nVidia needs to realize bigger does not mean better in this industry. ATi produces cards that are a good 2 inches shorter, standard size for a card...but nVidia produces these mammoths that get in the way of IDE cables and memory banks.

and the NV36, which will be placed between GeForce FX 5600 and 5900:
What are they going to call it, the FX5800?
Indeed it is a dustbuster. But hey, you can boast having the loudest and longest card ever

Does anyone know the performance of this card? Does anyone know the clock speeds of this card? Does anyone know how loud this card is?
If not, why the already bashing when we know nothing about it?
It's size is certainly not a pro, but the ducted cooling design isn't terrible in itself, unless coupled with an obnoxious fan. At this point there is no telling what the fan will be like.
Also, NVidia is not the only one building cards that need a dedicated power feed- ATI does too, and in my view that power-hungriness is a bad sign on any card design.

it's long because it's a test card, they test FX5900 ultra's were extreamly long too, the production one however is no longer and than a 9800 pro. i'm sure all ATI's test cards are rediculously long too, besides who care's if it's long, doesn't impact anything, well unless you're useing a ****y little case with no room which I seriously doubt anyone posting here would.

nVidia's cards have been long since the GF4's
FX 5900 Ultra (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=14-128-159-04.JPG/14-128-159-05.JPG/14-128-159-03.JPG/14-128-159-02.JPG/14-128-159-01.jpg) is still a lot longer then the 9800 Pro (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=14-137-010-03.JPG/14-137-010-01.JPG/14-137-010-02.JPG/14-137-010-04.JPG).
The lenth of the nVidia cards quite often gets in the way of if IDE cables is standard mid size tower cases, and get in the way of memory banks on just about every motherboard there is, because they go all the way across the motherboard.
And there are quite a few people here who have tiny shuttle cases to lug around with them ;)

Hmm...my GF2 MX400 is as short as my ATi card i believe (havent looked at it in a long time though, hehe)
Heres an example of the problem's of the length of nVidia cards.
Remember all the "sudden" deaths of nVidia cards in EPoX 8RDA mobos...caused because the card came to close the the memory slots and would chip off a resistor....
Never was a problem with ATi cards (both my 8500 and my 9500 Pro i have now) because they are well away from the memory banks.

Yeah, because I'm sure they make the cards as long as they possibly can.

easy - the judgements are made on the bases of the FX cards - they look the same, and since the Fx cards stink, why would these be any better..lol - the FX cards with their dustbuster were loud so liekly these are too.
Also, ATI cards are kicking butt right now - but how come they dont need a second slot for a cooling system? OH i know why - cause NVIDIA has no idea how to cooltheir cards or design them properly to follow industry specs. - they obviously dont care about a large percentage of their customers otherwise they would tone down the length of the card and the 2 slots it requires.
As for length - it is not because they are test card - nvidia cards are massive compared to ATI
my ti4600 gets in the way of my memory - i can not push down the bottom clips - i have to take out the card and then take out the ram - dont have to do that with my ati 9700PRO.

ATi, Matrox, S3, and others have absolutly no problem making cards of standard length...IMO nVidia just have engineers that dont know how to do it

for the cooling matter so what if it using up another pci anyone with a brain wouldnt put a pci slot card right under the agp card :)

nvidia has been getting their butts kicked by ati recently, and they know it. namagomi and i talked to one of their chipset engineers about it, and he admitted it to us. its not like its a secret that their recent video cards kinda sucked .
nvidia cards are a bit to big for my liking, even in my case (full tower antec). my hdd cables push against the back of the video card a little, and i have to take the video card out to get to the ram. but then again, i have to do that on my server with a ti500 also...

because your everyday user proably sees no harm in using all the pci slots and having one under their vid card, that is why.
what if i have a micro atx board with 3 pci slots
Sound card
NIC
TV tuner card
then what?

then you would have to get a different video card...
if you get a really small board, sometimes you have to make concessions. for example, i have a shuttle. i cant use a video card with a huge heatsink on it. its just one of those things you deal with .

The just burn the TV tuner and buy an AIW 9800 Pro and the PCI slot under the AGP is still free :D

I use none of my PCI slots. So I could care less. Like wise, if you are using micro ATX or shuttle you shouldnt expect to use everythring a regular tower can.
I would be more than willing to sacrifice my PCI slots for a better video card.

dunno about the longest card .. anyone remember Voodoo 5 5500???

Here we go with the cooling again. Somebody get a dB rating on that!

yeah, except you're forgeting one slight little thing, your average everyday user isn't gona to spend $500+ for a video card, your average everyday user would be hard pressed to spend more than $100-150, anyone would would by a high end card like the FX5900 Ultra would have enough common sence not to put a PCI next to it so the taking up the PCI slot next to it is a not issue (not to mention asus, MSI, etc are putting coolers that don't take up the slot anways), heck on my system I pretty much lose 2 PCI slots next to my card because of the water block, not that I have any cards in my PCI slots save my pump relay card anyways.

:) thanks guys for helping me out there with the cooling bit i was tired so had to go bed lol :)
and btw y would u want a tv tuner card in your pc when u get these massive TV's to watch ?? ive got a wintv tv card and it sits down by my feet all day everyday never going in my pc :)

Wanna bet on that ;) All these kids who see the latest and greatest nVidia has to offer in their gamin magazines have absolutly no idea about computers. They just get their mommy and daddy to buy it for them, and then put it in their computer. They have absolutly no idea of the works of a BIOS, IRQs, or probably even the latest drivers. Hell, i'll bet you 95% of the 33,000 members on this board even have no idea.
