I heared about the new Barton 2600+ hitting the market, and I wonder has anyone of you got one of these babies yet? I wonder if they're as overclockable as the little-brother 2500+? Can't wait to see some results...

Damn, I forgot to post this into AMD section. Could some moderator please move this thread there? :)

I don't think we have too many Japanese members. That's the only place you can get 2600+ Bartons. What makes you think they would OC more then the choice steppings of the most recent 2500+ chips?

You know, 2800+... similar OC, it's all marketing: 2600+ Barton replacing 2600+ T-Bred B.

Edit: I was wrong, newegg had them and still does:

Well you never know, I guess I'm just anxious, as always. :) I love it when new products enter the market without any big hassle and hype. I hope these babies are worth the extra $$$.

Why bother? AMD speed sorts their processors anyway. Chips based upon a certain core are sorted after testing stable speeds and temps, then marked and hardwired for a certain speed. They don't have time to engineer and manufacture chips for individual clock speeds. I say buy a 2500+ (cause you can get 'em cheap at Newegg) and overclock it. Anything higher is overpriced.

alacritan hit it on the spot.. all of the bartons are more or less the same.. so might as well go for the best bang per buck

newegg has them, but the stepping looks old

The retail packs are usually of newer steppings. Mine was of the newest stepping when i bought it a few months ago. I think that they're just using an old picture. I'm pretty sure that Newegg moves through enough inventory to have chips that old. If you want an insurred newer stepping, go to www.excaliberpc.com. Guarenteed AQXEA:0332 TPMW - good stepping. Prolly get about 2.3 on good air. Probabally close to stock voltage.

2.3 on good air :eh?:

XP1700 Tbred Bs are doing that for $40.

I'd hope for at least 2.4 on air for twice the T-B bux.

Not worth the $ imo.. like some1 before me said - most bang per buck

Bartons perform more calculations per clock cycle if I recall correctly. Therefore it is still better than the tbred.

No they don't. They just have 256Kb of extra L2 cache that acts as a 100MHz speed equivalent over the Tbred B. That is, for the same performance level a Tbred B must go about 100MHz faster than a Barton to do the same work. Some other small design modifications were made to other parts of the CPU but those were not substantial - more of the order of the sort of thing gotten in a stepping mask.

blah my tbred xp2000 owns bartons at 2.47ghz

isnt it a 300mhz boost? The 2700+ tbred is the same clocks as the 3000+ barton. So whats the deal?

AMD kinda got overenthusiastic with it's PR ratings. Plus the 3000 barton has a 400FSB (i think)

400 FSB 3000+ is 2100 MHz with 512 KB cache
333 FSB 3000+ is 2166 MHz with 512 KB cache
333 FSB 2700+ is 2166 MHz with 256 KB cache

Yup, it looks like they gave 300 PR points to just the double cache.
