Help with Booting Computer up.

All right, my friend computer was updating an sp1 patch or something from his college, which is mandatory. During the setup, someone Instant message him, and his computer froze. He can't do anything, so he restarted it manually. After rebooting the system, it can't even load up into window. It keeps saying please insert in boot disk. The thing is, I just want to know what do I do after inserting boot disk? He dont want to format his computer because it got all his current projects on it.

Also, is there anyway to get this to work? Thanks

Get a copy of PC World, September 2003 edition. On page 156 is step by step procedures to reinstall windows without losing data. There are seperate procedures for Win 98, ME, Win2K, and XP.
