Microsoft, always looking for a way to get into your wallets,
I like how they now want to make the chat service a subscription to prevent perverts and to protect people....
How many other off brand chat services are going to pop up that will be better than MSN Messenger?
Read this article below, and where it mentions that you have to enter your credit card information.

I wish there was a way to sound off to microsoft... this is completely absurd, to pay for chat now!!!!

I'm not against that, you make it sound like MSN messenger will be effected but i dont recall reading that it would.
It is their service, their rep, their company...they cna do whatever they want with it. If they think it'll stop creeps from preying on children then thats their own choice, a bit mistaken i think....not to say they dont know that. It's all about making money and having a good outside look to society...if they can improve both then they are going to do it.
lol
m$ is so greedy
what a bunch of BS
they havent even given a second thought to the children
the only thing they have noticed is cash

Hey bluestreakLB, you have a valid point much like Microsoft, but how comfortable do you feel on having M$ keeping your credit card data, and any personal data on you? Some governments do so, but how about a corporation? Is Microsoft going to be the next Visa, Mastercard or Discover Card or a Financial Institution?
I am all out for protecting the world from creepy individuals, but there are people that have jobs that do this. MS should hire people that seek out the baddies, and concentrate their efforts on helping the authorities to track down the creeps with logs, time frames etc.
Yes MS can do what they want with their software, much like they did with Windows XP; however, how much personal data do you feel comfortable with? If I am not mistaken, this could all be just be applicable for the MSN service as a whole only. My main point is simply of protecting your own information from a large corporation who has nothing better to do to make money off of you. That is why M$ in in business, and the software "somehow" is magically easier to use than Linux
(Wow sounds a lot like AOL, its so easy to use, yet so expensive compared to Netzero) $$$$ Money talks... and a good story helps Microsoft roll out the changes to get ever more money. Cash cow.
Lastly, bluestreakBL, I do notice that there are some topics that you have replied to me very quickly on in other threads. I appreciate that, I really do. Thank You.

Yes agreed, but as a whole for those MSN subscribers, if it proves successful, other chat service providers such as AIM or Yahoo could take good notice. With ever increasing threats to maintain security, business is business and M$ could set the example provided with their argument on what is best for protecting the consumer (especially children)..

The article in question is not talking about the MSN Messenger service. It is talking about the MSN chat rooms, where they have people using MIRC scripts to control and take over the chatrooms. The people using these scripts are alot of Computer nerdlings and also (as they are called) PornBots. Having spent time in the computer chats a while and hosting my daughters chatroom, it became a 24 hour chore trying to keep the room clean from porn and threats of nerdlings trying to spam and/or takeover control of the room. Granted, there were some good people using scripts just practicing their programming of Mirc and others that was trying to protect their own rooms but the chatrooms would be a much safer place if it was a subscription based so that the bad type people wouldnt come in because of the repercussions having to give this type of information would make it easier to prosecute them. I am not one for giving out my personal info to a corporation but in this case, IF Microsoft tried to charge anything to the card not on the bill or if your personal info was given or sold to a 3rd party then they would be sued for all they was worth and I could rename it to Tread's Windows XP. So, I agree with this as long as the agreement when it comes to my info is kept private, its no different than paying your electric bill online or anything else.

I totally agree with that too.... why pay, then have your privacy collected? If charges are made, I will sue too!! If it ever comes down to having you pay to chat later on because of these impacts, then M$ has to reconsider. Why pay for chat? It may or may not come down to that. It still is somewhat of a shoe in for M$ to set an example for possibly paying for a chat service, chat rooms or not. The keyword is "subscription".
Secondly, I am well aware mIRC and M$ chat rooms have these rampant problems as you are describing (XDCC bots, pop ups and the likes), so yes it is still wise for M$ implement new changes.......because enforcing attacks on your own is bothersome as well as dreaded.
I just hope that Microsoft is aware with what they are tackling. For the most part, it may not sound like a big deal to some people, but there are many people talking about this besides myself and on these forums.
I guess we all will have to wait and see.

You make a valid point there.
There is one simple solution that i have for that...not give it to them.
I'm hoping you enjoy the contents of this thread :D

Most large companies that do business online do not track your creditcard information themselves. There are 3rd party companies that provide these services. The reason that large companies prefer going to a third party (well 1 of the reasons at least) is to reduce liability. They want your credit card # just as bad as you want them to have it, which is not at all. They just want the your money ;)
