I was wondering if Axias are unlocked on default. Also, is there a way to check if it is unlocked (product id # or the like), w/o taking off the heatsink, perhaps on the box or in documentation. If not, does anyone know if www.1steweb.net sells the unlocked/axia chips, being that is where I bought my 1.2 ghz 266mhz fsb thunderbird. Thanks a bunch :)

My experience w/ 1.2 AXIA's is that they are unlocked. These are great chips, enjoy.

If you buy a 1.2Ghz or faster T-bird, you will almost certainly get an unlocked specimen..it may or may not be an 'AXIA' code.
I am fortunate to live in an area served by computer shows, and I have seen hundreds of 1Ghz, and faster processors. I have yet to see a 1.2Ghz that wasn't unlocked. There have been posts about the odd 1.2Ghz processor coming through locked. If perchance you do receive a locked processor, the unlocking is not that great of an issue. My eyes are not great, yet with magnification, I've successfully unlocked both T-birds and Durons.
Cheers,
T

Yes it will work. I have a 1gig on my KT7A right now and its running 10x140 for 1.4gigs. I run just fine unless I up the multiplier higher then 10. I think this is a PSU problem and I got an Enermax 431W on the way this week. I got an Enermax 350W in it now but I think the higher multipliers just demand more then my current PSU can squeeze out.
