Had an Athalon XP 1700 that died and called for an RMA and only held about three minutes, man was very nice, took the info and sent me an e mail where to send it with RMA number. Lo and behold, yesterday I get back a 1900 downgrade 2700 B core ! WHOA! I nearly flipped out ! New lamps for old personified ! ! !
Think it took about two weeks to get the new one back which isn't bad considering it went from SC to CALIF UPS ground and came back UPS ground.
Very refreshing to know there are folks out there that back up their product.
TIP: When you buy an AMD CPU always buy the retail boxed version and for a few bucks more you get the AMD THREE year warranty. ;)

OC ? Who, me ? Why of course not ! ;)
If I did it shouldn't make any difference because my MB has the auto shut down if it gets to hot. Only way you could fry one would be set the vcore to high and I do not mess with that.
It worked fine one day and next day wouldn't boot so I had to determine if it was the MB or CPU so I put another CPU in and it booted right up. That told me it was a bad CPU, and you know the rest of the story.
Wondering why in the Sam Hill they sent me a 1900 though, but I'm tickled pink. Says rigtht on the chip 27291 so that's a 2700 B core. Maybe they were out of 1700's, who knows ??

Roger on the retail boxed. Usually costs three to five bucks more for the retail boxed with the three year warranty where the OEM has one year. DDUUHH? ? ?
Only reason I can think of buying OEM is maybe a computer shop that gives one year warranty on the 'puters they build and IMHO they'd have to be a real cheap skate to do the customer that a'way. Give the customer the paper work and inform them the computer has a one year warranty but the CPU has three years.
Sounds like a plan to me and for a few bucks more the shop gets the AMD HS and fan.
Speaking of the AMD HS and fan, some say they aren't worth a hill of beans but not true according to Tom and I think you will find this link very informative as I did.

I just got a new 2500 Barton boxed and was pleased to see the bottom of the HS is now copper, not copper plated but a thick plate of copper.
