I am building a system and I akm debating over which processor to get, should I go for a 1ghz and hope I get an axia or should I play it safe and for $20 more get a 1.2ghz? Here are my specs:
unknown processor
Iwill KA266-R
Mid tower case
400W power supply
20.5 gig, ata 100 hard drive Western digital
A geforce 2 mx, I'm not sure what brand
128 mb pc2100 ddr
creative labs 52x cdrom
Am i missing anything or any suggestions, and please give me input on the processor dilema
Thanks a lot
Probably won't matter, both should get you about same overclocking results.

For $20 more go with a 1.2. How likely would you be to get a 1 gig up to 1.2 at the default voltage. Even if you did it wouldn't be worth the $20 risk.

If I am not mistaken, I think the 1.2gig has a lower default vcore then the 1gig or close anyways. Am I wrong?

Bender makes a good point, for $20 more you get 200mhz and you can easily hit 1.45gig+ w/ air cooling. Go for the 266fsb AXIA if you can. Your MOBO O/C's great w/ 1.2 AXIA's.
I too am trying to decide between a 1.0 or 1.2 Ghz Tbird. Is it true that ALL 1.2 CPUs are factory unlocked? For me that would be worth the extra $20 as I don't want the hassle of the unlocking process.
Don't worry about unlocking the thing. All I do is use a .5mm pencil and connect the bridges. So far it hasn't given me a bit of trouble.
Ok I have good eye sight so its not a big deal. Those little bridges are tiny.
It's worth $20.00 to have the bridges unlocked! ;D
FWIW, with my 1.0G/266 at the default voltage of 1.75, it runs 10x133 no sweat. At 1.85, it runs 10x145, at 1.95, it runs 10x150 and at 2.00 10.5x145. At 2.05, it boots into the Windows Desktop at 10.5x150, but fails Prime95 Torture.
Hoot
Always go for the max you can afford.

what ? ?
did i hear what i think i did?
That may apply at AMD but not Intel, for intel, the best you can afford is not always the best chip.....
if you can get an the same stepping chip for AMD...and that stepping always hits 1.X....
it might be worth it to get the better chip only if it is very little more than the one you are looking at
