I'm trying to put together a secondhand system for my parents to use in the kitchen - I was going to use an old K6-233, but it seems that the motherboard for that failed when I mixed SIMMS and DIMMS.

So, I bought a Gigabyte GAA5 super socket 7 motherboard from eBay with a K6-2 and 128Mb of SDRAM, and installed it with my existing case: I set up the jumpers and DIP switches exactly according to the manual, and checked carefully to connect the AT power connector correctly. I also installed a known good PCI graphics card.

However, on power on, I had no video signal and no POST beep. Removing the memory and graphics card produced no error beeps. I cannot think of anything further to try: does anyone here have any ideas?

did anything else happen? Did power supply fan turn on, front LEDs light up? Anything? It is weird that it wouldn't make a post beep if you remove the memory. Let me know what else, if anything, is going on when you press the power button.

Did you say "AT" power connector? Doesn't a K6-2 require ATX?

No, it doesnt. Its a socket 7 cpu, which means it works in Pentium one mobos.

Make sure the AT power is connected to the switch

The PSU is connected properly; it hasn't been disturbed since the case was new. The hard drives and fans (including fans connected to the motherboard) spin up, but no POST.

Do you think that it could be the CPU? I've got a K6-2 233 that I could try in it, as well as a P200mmx...

I'm not sure if it could be the CPU or not, but it couldn't hurt to try another one to check. If I had the same problem and had extra CPU's to test with it, that is what I would do.
