I will be needing to upgrade to a much better PSU very soon. currently I only have a generic 300watt that I picked up @ a local shop.

Im working on some new components for my system...when done the specs will be close to:

Abit NF7-S rev2 w/ nb @ highest voltage (1.7v)
1700 JIUHB w/ MCX462-V + 92mm tornado. looking to get to 2.3ghz+ probably about 1.8v vcore
RAM: i run that at max voltage 3.02v (reading from MBM) 2x256mb
Video: will be a Radeon 9800 w/ 2.8ns chips....thinking of overclocking this to ~415+/360+
sound: onboard soundstorm
Storage: 1 DVD/CD-RW drive, 60 gb 5400rpm seagate and a small 5400 10gb (swap file).
Then theres the usual, keyboard/mouse, few standard 80mm case fans, and a fblue lourecent light.

i dont believe my 300watter is going to be able to handle all that. i was thinking maybe a fortron 400w (saw an excellent review of one @ anandtech; i believe they said it was equivalent to some 500watt+ PSU's)...anyhow,

I'd appreciate any reccomendations. as far as my budget for a PSU goes...id like to spend as little as possible while still getting a sufficient PSU. ive already went way over-budget on my cooling/grafx card...

for what you want to power a fortron 350 would probably be the most economical choice that should do a fine job...you can get the 120mm fan version that is nearly inaudible from www.newegg.com for $36...

on the other hand...if you ever want more than 2.5ghz on the AMD or 3.2ghz+ on a p4...then you might want to try the fortron 530 or antec tp 480 or tp 550....from newegg and directron.com

Another vote for the Fortron. I've got the one with the 120mm fan. It does a great job at powering my machine. Voltages are very accurate.

i think it might be the wrong one though

a fortron530 is for dualy rigs, and you will have to buy an adapter

im using a tp480 and the voltage readings are great

that gets my vote

the fortron 530 is not for dual rigs...it has a standard 20 pin ATX connector...

the fortron 550 is for the special EPS 24 pin connector...

the antec tp 480 and 550 are good options though...
