KT400 mobos are NOT good for OCing

Hi,

I'm a bit worried about mobos using KT333 or KT400 chipset.

I understood is that these mobos are not PCI locked and dividers are managed automatically (changes at 133, 166 and 200Mhz for FSB). IS that true?

So what is happening when you are between 166 and 200Mhz? there is a high risk of damaging PCI/AGP bus-based devices as these devices will run out of spec? isn't it?

Does anyone can give me information about this dilemma?

thank you very much by advance...

Welcome to the world of pre-nForce2 overclocking. Yes, dividers automatically kick in at certain FSB's, therefore, at any FSB higher than 133, your PCI bus is running out of spec.

except that It seems that at 166 and 200, dividers change again, aren't they?

KT333 and KT400 boards have dividers for 100, 133, and 166, all other speeds result in out-of-spec pci bus speeds. So on a KT 400 board with a FSB of 200MHZ, your PCI bus is at 40MHz. (I believe KT400A/KT600 have the proper divider for 400MHZ FSB).
