View Full Version : Athlon 500
I have IBM Aptiva Athlon 500 with the most recent BIOS (S30EN2Q). When I entered the BIOS, the Processor Speed is under the System Info area which is not accessable and I cannot find anywhere to adjust the FSB. Do you know what I need to do in order to try and overclock the system? (The motherboard is the one that came with the system)
Thanks.
Ovrclocking the bus will only give you a little extra speed. The highest FSB you could reasonably get is 110. What you need is a Goldfinger device to change the multiplier. A Goldfinger attaches to the golden fingers on the pc board underneath the plastic housing of the chip. With my athlon 500 I was able to reach 700 at 1.65v without a hitch. If your 500 is somewhat newer it could have a 600-750 core. Look in the cpu database here at overclockers.com and see what weeks have what cores. If you have a faster core I would definitely go ahead and buy a Goldfinger. I don't know of a good place to purchase a Goldfinger but ebay is a good place to start.
