if you have a 56k modem then u will never get 56k out of it-and with broadband sometimes youll only get 30k a sec dl anyway-its not normal to run under rated speeds-most if not all internet connections run at under default speed-my broadband is 1.5megs a second dl-do i EVER get that NO! ususlly 150-300k sec but hey thats still fast-at www.dslreports.com on the speed test i rated 1453dl and 459 ul speed 29x faster than 56k-go there and try it for yourself

It is NOT 1.5mbyte/s its 1.5mbit/s so ur getting what u should have and even more!!! Most ppl still dont understand the speed is rated in kbit/mbit and not BYTE. If u had 10mbit u would have gotten like 1mbyte/s MAX.

56k=5kb/s and something maximum

I think i am confused-i have a 1.5 mbit connection, not sure what that convets to in k/sec but i know that the speed test was 1459 k/sec dl and on Hotlie Client i have dled from a t3 ar 6 megs a second-yes that was wrong im sure-that sounds way to fast-but i did get a 483 meg file in lie 20minutes or something-please explain this-what is mbit vs mbyte

1bit=8 bytes

1,544 mbit=193K/sec

You also have to take all the extra crap into account, like TCP/IP headers, ping requests, etc... That'll shave something off the speed also.

Dude I use to have those kinda probs with my cable service(@home)......but now I get like 678k. That screams. But as far as your connection goes, Im assuming you have cable with Charter? If so how are the cables in your house. If they are old I would recommend putting in new cable. Old cable and subpar connectors believe it or not will screw you big.Also ask the cable company what the condition of the lines are in your neibor hood. If you live in the city limits your lines are probably older thatn the lines in the surrounding areas. Also 1 more thing is there might be way too many peeps on your node. Use a utility like TraceRoute and see which hop you bottle neck in. If you have a large packet loss before you leave your city its probably your ISP.
