View Full Version : ati 9600 128mg vs gforce fx 5600 128mg
which is better,,,? and price diff?
Are you talking about the FX5600U or FX5600? 9600pro or 9600? If 9600pro, then I'd reccommend it; very good card. If, however, you're talking about the 9600np and FX5600, then I'd reccommend the ti4200 as it's much cheaper and much faster than either of the two cards.

i would take a 9600 pro over the 9500 pro because the 9600 pro normally overclcoks substancially. To the point, if the 9500 pro and 9600 pro were both over clocked to the max, the 9600 pro would be faster, becasue it simply overclcoks so much, besides the 9600 pro is also cheaper the nthe 9500 pro. I would take the 9600 np over the ti4200 becasue it has dx9, and also probably overclocks well.
Actually, an overclocked 9600pro is usually almost always slower than an overclocked 9500pro. Just look at the top 3dmark03 scores for each card.
Anyway, get the 9600pro. Less buggy, faster and cheaper (by about $30) than an FX5600 ultra.
The vanilla FX5600, on the other hand, is a total joke comared to the 9600pro.

well ok then, but i could have swore that the 9600 pro oced was faster. 500mhz core is the norm of what ppl get with those things on regular cooling.

I just recently upgraded from a 8500LE 128MB to a 9500 Pro 128MB. The reason I decided over the 9600 Pro was because even though the 9600 Pro is clocked much higher, the 9500 Pro has 8 rendering pipelines in comparison to the 9600 Pro's 4. So if the 9600 Pro is clocked higher and has less pipelines.....and the 9500 has more pipelines and is clocked slower....what happens when you overclock the 9500 Pro with those 8 pipelines ready to go? I did extensive searching on the net for reviews and benchmarks and from what I gathered, the 9500 Pro is a much better card. Or you can try to find a 9500 non pro and try your luck at getting one that can be soft modded to a 9700 Pro.
I will tell you though, I'm very happy with my Radeon 9500 pro. it scored a 3634 if I remember correctly in 3dMark03. My old 8500LE 128MB only got 1254.
can you even find 9500 pros anymore?

getting a 9500pro is bad advice. if you even find one it'll cost around 200. for that you can get a 9700 non pro which is still better. then again for $40 more you can get a 9800 non pro rev 2. the rev2's con't take the 9800 PRO bios but it's still a good buy.
best bet is a reg 9500 for around $130's or a 9700 non pro.
I don't think it's possible to find 9700nps for $200 anymore.

You can't find 9700 non pro's for $200 anymore. I looked all over. That's why I ended up with the 9500 Pro. And I'm very happy with it. And I did pay $200 for it. Well, I got it for free because of the system I was building for my mom, she took my old card and let me choose a replacement....budget of $200.

Speaking from experience... I've got a fx5600 256ddr and I'm still kicking myself for not picking up a 9600 pro! I got suckered in thinking the 256 would perform... but alas... its just FREAKIN SLOW!!!
