If both are 1333 there should be no difference. What store were you looking at? Thunder Bird is simply the codename for the newer socket A Athlon chips. Both the socket and slot processors are considered Athlons but only the socket chips are available at 1333. The difference in price could be retail and OEM. Retail chips include a longer warranty than OEM, which would explain the extra cost. I hope I cleared thing up a little and didn't confuse you more.

Saw it here http://www.allstarshop.com/shop/Subsection.asp?dept_id=183&sid=GJ4A4C0KMS4C9NE4RKX3X3R9F7V659NF

You can see the "DDR" athlons on top and the "thunderbirds" below....makes it seem like only the DDR ones support DDR memory....I thought all of them did though and it was just dependent on the mobo.

The prices are a little high. Try looking at pricewatch.com but watch out for shipping. TCWO.com has some great deals on chips right now. Shipping is ridiculously cheep and customer service there is ok. For instance I ordered 2 cases, 2 sets of big speakers and a bunch of other parts; shipping was still only $6.99.

I looked at the ad. The difference is the FSB speed. The more expensive K7 is 266 while the Tbird that is advertised there is actually the (discontinued) 1.3 (not 1.33) GHz with a 200 MHz bus. Both are Tbirds, but what they call K7s have the faster 266 bus.
