When you are a hardcore OC guy, you might upgrade a hardware or two more the you change underwear over a period.

Dont you a "little" bit feel... damn my computer feels out of time... but funny as it is, you probably have one of the greatest comps out there on the market .. funny isnt it =/ ....

Here i Sweden we say, mutch, wants more...

Let me clear things up, its when you are so demand to get the best that you feel you are w8ing to long to get the next... while others are just going in a slooooow-motion speed of hardware.

sig might say alot if you not understand me...

I know exactly what you mean. I feel my comp is amazingly slow and yet it is probably the best in a 100-mile radius... :)

Hahahaha yeah we have an old Intel P1 at work 166Mhz on a dialup modem ....so when we start moaning about how slow our network or system is we sit on that for 5 minutes..... great therapy!

LOL that's therapy all right :D

I think it's a thing felt by all OCers, though in my case it's quite extreme since I can't upgrade any components  I've got a very respectable system (XP1800, WD800JB, R9500) but any time I look through the forums I get an urge to upgrade SOMETHING :D

Of course, 90% of it is that my CPU's a Palomino and I'm just jealous of all the guys with TBred XP1700's OCing the snot out of them :D

the pc is usually fine ,its the users brain thats stuck, well for me anyhow.

ive built several "high end oc" rigs so far.and each time when i get done i dismantle it and sell all of it ,and start over from scratch.while taking a 3-6 month absence from pc's
and yes i take a humoungous hit financially doing this.

why such drastic measures? thats rather easy!

this is when i know imoverboard:
i know i have something wrong when i cant find anything to oc on my rig anymore.
i have all the fastest hardware i can buy.
i defrag my raid 0 setup 2x a day to keep it fresh.

id guess im obsesive compulsive with my rigs.
and when this starts the rig feels old, slow,no fun.
thats why i sell it all and take a break

when i start back up i get a crappy 300-500mhz pc to research a new rig and start all over again.
even buying some same parts i had on the last rig,but now everything seems fresh and new and i can be excited once more over stuff that not so long ago bored me.

ok i have issues big time and i know it.so no need pointing that out.im not rich either.
this is my hobby and i love it.also from what i learn on each build the next rig is usually 2x as fast as the last one.

ive been ocing for a few years now and i think im one of the extream cases.so just beware this could happen to you also.

one good side is i know i can build record setting, pushed and oced rigs far beyond what most ppl call normal. its fun and i love it!

I totally know what you mean, not many PC's can do what mine can (that i've been on) yet i want more.

It's a drug really...and we are all adicts

upgrade the computer more than I change my underware?

No.

However, full moons happen more often then I change my underware.

I don't get that feeling anymore since I've reached my happy medium. My current machine does everything I want it to at the noise level I can tolerate. It's reliable, predictable, comfortable, and is so customized to fit my needs that it's like no other.
I stopped being speed hungry a while ago when the newest of new games just weren't as entertaining as some of my old favorites. If that changes than my hardware probably will to.

So my upgrades only come when I feel my machine can't keep up with what I want it to do. That hasn't happened in a year.

I find that the longer I have the base set of hardware for my main machine, the more I feel at one with it. Have a real good sense of exactly which bits of it I feel like replacing next, but I'm still largely satisfied and know where its limits are, and routinely push it up to those limits.

I'm a little disgusted when I see people with overpowered machines, who can't really utilize those machines. I feel bad myself when mine is overpowering and not much I do can really push it.

i'm always planning my next upgrade, even when my processor was faster then anything available on the market i still wanted a faster one (was at 1.8Ghz well before the XP2200 came out).

DS13, you actually sold that kickass 9700NP? that card was awsome :eh?:

DS13, you actually sold that kickass 9700NP? that card was awsome yup gone like the wind my man.
i will dearly miss it tho as cards like that are few and far between.

Well, I know that anyone within 4.32 miles doesn't have a faster rig - but then that radius is less than Blueacid's house :D

But I am not happy - Gf4 MX 440

Oh, and my rattly, inefficient and small stock cooler needs to be replaced by an SK-7 QUICK.

Hardware is getting faster, software is getting slower.

Thats the point of faster hardware.

Did somebody say 64 bit chips? Is it going to start all over? Now I'm contemplating a fresh reload of Windows just 'cause. and maybe I'll sell my 3200 memory for some neato PC5000 I saw on the Kingston site?
help me........

I feel it when Im planning my upcoming purchases. I start out mid-high end, but I can't help pushing myself more and more to get hte best stuff. Also, when that Newegg box is in my hands and opened, it always gives me the warmest feeling inside :).

I'm with you XW, I feel bad when I slack off and use my dual for browsing and chatting ;), but I think I find the joy of working with big hardware as a positive way to push my own limits and enter into new hobbies, such as rendering and CAD, as an excuse to play with the hardware :). It's turning out to be a positive cycle, and I'm not so caught up in trying to fit the FPS gaming mold anymore (something I could never really do, and the thing that was the biggest push before for new hardware).

video card upgrading is the most over done "upgrade" by ocers.
honestly and ive had to argue this with others too "a $40 gf mx440" oced and set up correctly will play any game out there nicely!

but again it isnt 4xaa and all eye candy but unless your a hard core gamer, most things are over board.
but also take into thought,i do this as a hobby/fun/learning.sure most things i do are overboard, but a mx440 can only oc so far and become boring.
so i justify alot of needless parts as "fun/learning"

Now you are talking about pure time-wasting.

LOL deathstar, I'd call you an OCed PC bulemic, the binge and purge cycles seem to fit that definition perfectly :D.

My big upgrades are usually when I can get double the power or better for a reasonable price. Though I usually seem to wait long enough that it's like 4x the power. 4mhz Z80>20Mhz 386>100Mhz 5x86>400Mhz K6-2>1533Mhz XP. So I guess the next biggie is at 6Ghz :D

I often get a CPU upgrade between big upgrades though, usually when I get at least a 50% improvement for $50. So the next one is probably for a 2.5Ghz chip for $50.

i highley agree,id give any phyciatrist bad dreams man!

in my defense tho,i rarely ever buy the top dog of anything.usually a few notches below and oc it to faster than anything on the market.
9700np to faster than 9800pro speeds
xp1700 to 2.5ghz

but i also know some hardware you have to buy the best.
abit nf7-s rev2
corsair 3500
dual raptors in raid 0

this was 6-8 months ago tho, when these parts were the top.
you wont see me with a fx51 anytime soon tho.

i judge upgrades by fun factor/oc ability over what i currently have.i rarely run into i need to upgrade anything, but a pc isnt ever needed by me.so i dont have the concerns some people have.
