View Full Version : Need suggestions on why I keep crashing
Set up: axia y, 1.33Ghz, 266 FSB CPU, on a KT7A Raid MB, with Kyro II video card. 40G WD HDD. Win ME.
I did over clock experiments with a non Axia CPU, and of course had many crashes. I then replaced the CPU with the AXIA one I have now, and the system is unstable. It boots up OK, but often locks up within a few minutes. I am running the CPU at std speed right now.
Do you guys find that Win ME or Win 98 SE is better for stability? Particularly in overclock systems?
I think I will reinstall the OS since it may have got currupted, but was not sure which one.
Any possible HW conflicts anyone know of?
Have u overclocked?
What are ur temps?

My system works perfectly: I have a blue core Athlon.
Win Me by the way, is quite stable even more than SE, but it doesn't mean it has no dummy functions/programs.
Try marking the CPU with pencil of course , before O"Cing!
Have an Abit KT7 and it doesn't boots if your briges are not good penciled.
Try rising Voltage (my is 1.82).
maybe your just too hot, or, try re-installing all the hardware one at a time, first the basic ones then the other expansion cards, and make sure to put it securely in place.
The temps are 29-36 deg. I am not over clocking at all right now.
What do you mean pencil the CPU? The L1 bridges are already shorted and this is a 1.33 GHz CPU and I am running it at 10x133
Am I missing something here?
well, if you are running at default speed and you still get lockups, I'd say its your OS. You should try reinstalling it and seeing if that helps.

I have found that if you switch branda of chips, you need to do a complete format of your hard-drive. When I switched to an AMD from a Pentium, AMD highly recomended to nuke the hard-drive for there would be no conflicts. I hope this helps.

The great unknown quantity is your video card. I am not aware of any compatibility issues with the Kyro II, but it is very new.
Has the system ever been stable, under any condition(s)?
I see two good suggestions in this thread, but without a more detailed picture of your set-up, I don't know which direction you may want to move.
Did you follow the installation sequence found here (http://www.viahardware.com/faq/kt7/kt7faq.htm)? Please see the miscellaneous
section.
Reformatting and installing one component at a time are both good suggestions.
Concerning the penciling of any bridges, you're okay there..you're not missing a thing.
If you still require assistance, a complete listing of your system parameters will help..Do you have a recommended PSU?
