Hi!
Last week i overclocked my FX5200 128mb (6ns DDR) and 128 bit...

Stock Speed: 250MHz/333MHz
OC Speed: 300MHz/410MHz

No artifacts, stock cooling, no crashes...
Maybe i could go higher with better cooling...

What are your expieriences in overclocking this kind of Cards?

Thx in forward,
cya

280/330 with no problems in 3DMark2001 but the card is not anything to write home about i only got it because i ran out of funds in building my system and i have already found someone to buy the card from me

I tried overclocking my card using the CoolBit registry edit. The results weren't very good.

I've been having some system stability problems when trying to overclcock my CPU or GPU lately so I've invested in an IceberQ 4 Pro cooling unit for the GPU ($15.99) and another 80mm system fan for the front of the case.

Hopefully this will increase my ability to overclock either of these processing units and I can re-post here with some good results :)

ive got a gainward 5200 fx i can get 310/420 but only after i added a fan. wish i could find a volt mod. then id give this peice of crap the viking funeral it deserves

Best way to OC this card is to throw it out and get a better card. Even a cheapo GF4200 is much better and costs 79 bucks.

Ok, I installed the iCEBERQ 4 Pro fan & memory heatsinks. I'm still in the process of overclocking, but so far I've increased both the core and memory by about 20 with no problems as of yet

I'll let you know what my maximum OC is when I reach it.

BTW, if you're looking into the iCEBERQ 4 Pro HSF, be sure and read my other post about it. Apparently, it doesn't fit all FX series cards as advertised.

Look at my sig to see what I overclocked mine too!

*BTW that is on stock cooling I wonder what I could get with H2O!!

Get the Coolbit registry edit. It consists of just a few registry key entries that unlocks the "Clock Frequencies" tab in the FX 5200 settings menu in Display Properties. All you have to do at that point, is slide the sliders to the speed you want. VERY simple :D

Ive just purchased a 5200 cheapo and im selling my TI4200 on ebay.co.uk Edited by SSS

sorry about the pimping but anyway.... got the core of the 5200 to 335 and mem to 525mhz with coolbits... However a big however why does cool bits give me a messege (testing failed please lower your clock speeds)

ive got large fan on my heatsink but no ram sinks.

Anyone got any idea?

Yah here's an Idea, Try reading the Forum Rules (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=115345) Rule #4 says:

What's pimping?

My guess is the obvious: You overclocked your RAM a lot, you have nothing cooling the RAM, your RAM is getting too hot.

It took a while, but I found a working link to the Coolbits.reg file. Save this and then double-click and you're done :)

www.overclockers.com.au/files/CoolBits.reg

And here's a nice writeup about using this feature:

I’ve install it and I can't adjust the settings. I has the bar and you can move the tap to change the MHz, but both are set to the max and how do you get it so you can adjust it?

Haven't seen that before.

Did you be sure and check the box to enable adjusting the clock? Its on that same screen.

On a side note, I took mine up to 280/325 last night. I didn't have any problems, and played BF 1942 (DC mod) flawlessly for about half an hour. I did, however, get a problem when I went to mutiplayer. I was playing on my bro's (non-dedicated) server and I shot a missle out of the Apache at close range and FREEEEEEZE! It seems every time this game has frozen on me, I've been flying the Apache. I'm starting to wonder if its my bug or theirs

I did click the box and it at first let me set it all the way to 900Mhz but after a restarte it will only go to 400Mhz. I didn't set it up over 430 and I ran 3DMark03 noproblem. I restarted the computer and it reset all those settings. What is going on?

Lol! jeez, going for the gold huh?! :p Did you read that article I linked to above? Has some great info on the best OC strategy using this utility.

If it reset all the settings, it probably means the "Apply Settings on Startup" option wasn't checked, which is near the "Test Settings" button. Typically, you want to set the core/memory clock speeds, then test them, then check that box once you've determined its stable. Everyone has their own methods, but that's probably the safest.

How do you un do what I've done. It has the stock settings as the highest I can do, how do I up it?

That's interesting. You may have to find a way to delete the Coobit registry items (just a few I think) and re-install it.

I did it. I fix what ever the hell was going on that was keeping me from OC the card. Dam that took me 4hrs to find out what was going on. I had to delete coolbits, and a few other programs, get ride of FX5200 drivers, and re-install everything. I tride it three times before I found out what files I had to get ride of and programs. Dam That sucked I wish I new what I did to start this problem. I'm thinking I might get a the 9600 pro card. Is there some program like coolbits that would alowe me to OC that car also?

As far as I know, Coolbits works for most, fit not all, of the newer Nvidia cards. RivaTuner is another utility that might work, but I found it to be not quite as user-friendly as the Coolbits edit. I'm much more comfortable messing w/Coolbits personally since I'm a NewB to overclocking.

Sounds like it was a pain to fix, but I'm glad you got it done. You might give it one more shot from scratch, carefully taking note of what is changed, but I know you're probably tired of dealing with it, heh.

Did you apply your clock speeds at 900mhz??? That would cause a major problem.

When you set the clock frequencies, check the box at the bottom of the screen that says "Apply settings at system startup."

The highest I set it to was 445 and it didn't work so I back it down to 277/430 seems to work the best.

Cool it well at those speeds, but understand it will not stay at those speeds forever and expect one day to see artifacts.

Okay, I have an older system that I've been planning to upgrade. I've got the new Asus P4C800-DX 875P,Corsair 500MHz DDR RAM (CMX PRO) 1024 MB, and it's waiting in the wings for the new Processor (P4 3.2 MHz.). But, for right now, I'm just trying to squeeze everything I can get out of my present system, which includes a PIII 533 MHz(yeah, I know, it's a dinosaur...lol), 512 MB 133 MHz SDRAM, and a GFX5200 TD-128(the card with the passive heatsink, no fan) which a buddy gave to me, just to mess with. Now, my Processor isn't OC'ed because I just have the stock slot 1 fan on the CPU. But I'd like to bump up the vid card if possible. Can anyone give me a few pointers in overclocking the Vid card, and CPU if possible, without going too extreme, whereas I have to go and buy more cooling for this system. I don't want to lay out any more cash on this heap, and would rather save it for the new processor. Thanks gang, I appreciate it. Great site btw.

Yeah, but did your card have a fan , and heatsinks on the SDRAM?? My card is the "el-cheapo" version, remember?...lol. I don't want to cook my buddy's card, it's only a loaner...heh.

It has a fan, and the card was only 60 shipped new.

Yeah, okay, I thought so. I can't go to those levels with the passive cooling system only on this card. I guess that I'm screwed. :(
