View Full Version : boom! my first block!
Hey, I just finished my first block.
I really needed a chipset w/block and I'm a little short on the $ so I decided to build my own cheap wb.
I took an old P2 hs (aluminum) got it sealed in the sides and put 2 copper tubes on top. looks really cool.
I'll post some pics later on (my cam is at my gf's house).
they only thing that I didn't bother doing is mounting holes for the nb. Thank god I got some thermal pads :p
Suma.
I sure hope you're out to get the camera man!! we wan't photos!! :D
Otherwize I think that converting aircoolers for water is smart... atleast you've got the "surface" area thing covered.
I think that bad beefy aircoolers will become better wattercoolers! 'Cause those thin-fin coolers won't work good in a h2o environment since the heat won't spread long.
got the cam, but it leaked during the night so I did some sealing and I have a driving lesson maybe I'll get to get a photo or to of my testbed ;]
lol it's not like special or hard...
but it's nice indeed ;]
got it reseald leaktesting again...
ok pics :)

whats teh bottom of the black made of?? and whats all that white stuff? =p
blue you mean? :) it's aluminum.
the white stuff in the sealnt I used..
I don't know the name of the thing in English, I can only tell you what it does. You get a roll of green and white stuff you mix the two togther and then you have 10 minutes to put the mix before it'll get really hard. btw, you can't get it our onl drilling.. :D

At first I thought it was hooked up to a pelt and that white coating was ice... What do the insides look like?

typo.. suppose to be block not black :p
ok, updates:
1. there's a microleak it. I've tested it overnight and there was a really little drop on the paper. I'll probably coat it with another epoxy layer.
2. soja - It's a regular hsf, the inside looks like a "short" hs with little fins all over it.
3. cherryp00t - my answer is still aluminum http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/images/smilies/tongue.gif

neat idea for a cheap nb wb !
I wonder if a decent performing gpu wb could be made the same way....

there are about 4-5 blocks in the tip and techniques section of overclockers.com that were made this way. You just file a heatsinks fins down, and then cap it off.

this gave me an idea. why not make mosfet WB sorta liek that? cut down a HS so its the size of your mosfets' area, (fins running longways) and seal it up with water runnin through it! i think im gonna cut up this P2 HS i have here and try it (even tho i dont have ANY WC stuff... hahaha.... cool thing is that they will fit my A7N8X quite well :-)

awesome job man. i wonder what kind of results could be gotten from converting modern heatsinks... think of sealing a slk-900 with water in one side and out the other. oh man...
