Well, I e-mailed soundmax tech support so I guess I will paste the email i sent them:
Computer brand and model: Custom Built 2.8GHz Pentium 4, Intel D865PERL Motherboard
Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition
Driver version: (Please see below.)
Brief summary of your specific problem: Ok, well it all started when I bought an Antec headset (Headphone/microphone combo) and I plugged it in. The sound was working fine but for the life of me I could not get the mic to work. I have hooked up several computers with mics before, but never one using your SoundMAX software. I have the microphone unmuted in your control panel and for some reason a yellow exclamation mark will pop up and say "Needs to be muted." I tried recording sound with it both muted and unmuted and still no luck. The only way i can get it to pick up noise is if I yell or blow into the mic. I searched for problems like mine on a reliable web forum and most of the people with a similar problem said after they reinstalled their drivers it worked. So, I go to your website and download the driver for my motherboard and my operating system. I unzipped the files to its own folder and ran the Setup. It said "SoundMAX is already installed on your system, it is recommended that you uninstall this before continuing." So I clicked yes and it prompted me to restart my computer. After restarting, a Windows prompt popped up and it said: "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard. This wizard helps you install software for: Multimedia Audio Controller. If your hardware came with an Installation CD or floppy disk, insert it now. What do you want the wizard to do? Install the software automatically (Recommended) or Install from a list or specific location (Advanced). Click Next to continue." The problem is it's a Catch 22. No matter which one I pick it doesn't find anything. Thanks in advance for the help, I know from experience Tech Supporting is under-appreciated, but I can't thank you enough.
If you need more details please reply and let me know! THANKS!
