I had one problem though with my motherboard since it only goes up to 1000mhz i could only get the gfd to get that high. Does anyone know how to get around this because i know i could easily reach 1050.

You say that your mobo does NOT accept the 10.5x multiplyer?? Never heard of that. What mobo do you have? Already tried a biosupdate?

I got like the first slot a motherboard made by gigabyte which dosnt even have Fsb switches

OK, no FSB switches. No problem, mobo should be able to handle the multiplyer. Only multiplyer issue is old mobo's going to 800. All of those problems on the few mobo's which had the problems, were solved in newer bios-releases. You don't need FSB for the jump to 1050. Good luck on getting there ;)

modification: You say your GFD won't take you to 1050. Why is that, can't the switches on it go that high? is it the PC not booting? What voltages did you use? Beeps when starting up? I really like to help but I need some info :)

Ok when i change the dip swtiched for 10.5x multiplier and i turn my machine on the fan runs but nothing comes up. i got my voltage set to 1.87 right now. I went on the gigabytes homepage and found out that my board only goes up to 10x or 1000mhz.
Any ideas? I did turn the bios to default instead of optimal and tried the same 10.5x multiplier but nothing happened. I just won a k7v off of ebay will that be able to take my 900 t -bird? Give me some info on this board . I go it for 103 bucks

Hmm, maybe your chip is just unwilling to run any higher. What are your temperatures? Tbird gots a 0.18um core, they can take quite some voltage. You can easily up it some more AS LONG as your temps are OK. I've used a car thermometer and mounted the probe to my CPU back. Works fine, the unit on my case also displays intake temp. The 1050 won't run because of instability. Maybe it's just the L2 cache stopping you from getting there. Try to disable that in the bios. L2cache ECC check is disabled by default, just leave it off. CPU's run fine with L2 disabled, but not super fast, so it's just a test to see what's wrong.

Also try some higher voltage (but only if temps allow!!!), 1.9 and even 1.95 should be ok. Remember to watch temps, if you go near 50, stop! I think voltage will solve it. Don't go to higher voltage if you are not able to watch your temps!

About the K7V, runs slot-A at all speeds guaranteed, but it only runs t-birds up to 800MHz. For higher rated t-birds, you need a K7V-T. But there is a patch available to convert your K7V => K7V-T. Go to www.k7v.com for some nice info on manipulating/modifying your k7v. It involves connecting some points on the slot-A connector. Before you start the mod, have a look in their open forum to see some experiences from others. Also a nice and cheap way described over there on how to build your own thermal probe which you can attach to the mobo!

Succes on OC'ing!

COME ON, SLOT-A PROFS!

Where is everybody? We can use some input over here from you!
Dr. Killdare? andz? etc.

Ok thanks for the input!
I know about the k7v and i hope the mod works but, even if i get my computer to 1050 with the cache disabled will my computer run slower? Also right now my temps are CPu 41.5 at full load .. ie running unreal t for like 45 min. system case is around 33-34 on a hot day. I should be getting my cas 2 crucial ram today. I ordered a 256 and 128 pc133 stick for my motherboard and it also works with the k7v if i decided to go with that board too. I download cpufsb for my gigabyte board and i guess i can try to run this thing at 120mhz pci 30mhz or pc 133 pci 33mhz. I guess i should get some high fsb speeds with the k7v if i do the mod. ok well ill write back to let you know what happens.

Love to help but, don't know that mobo and, I tryied to get myself the GFD made by compunerds usa (is the only one I like, not available anymore), so I don't have any experience with the GFD. I'm tweaking my processor from the inside...lol

Don't expect very high FSB on the K7V, as the chipset it uses is the KX133, a version crippled not to reach high FSB, because the 133MHz FSB boards to be released in the future. Most I can do at 5x is 107MHz. At 8x I can do merely 103 stable. But you've go T-bird, maybe a better chance! Good luck!

I just installed my 384 megs of crucial ram running at cas 2 for 112 bucks. I didnt see much improvment and i was running 128megs ram
However i did see a big improvment when i up my processor from 900 to 1000mhz. I think its because my board only runs at 100mhz fsb

Might be that your board IS the problem- I got an old AMD mobo that even with a GFD that goes to 10.5 it will only go to 10x multi-the board just dont go any higher-so im getting a new setup(CPU , RAM, Board)

I think im just going to go for the GTS pro 64meg DDR leadtek video card and use that until the athlon 4 comes out with a suitible motherboard. I heard the abit KG7 which uses amd760 chipset will be a killer and they will be anouncing it this week. My system will be fine for another 3 or 4 months one i get my new video card and then i will decide then what to upgrade to. There really isnt a super super improvment if i were to get a new board from what i got now

Ooouuuucccchhhh ! It really hurts knowing my mobo (MSI 6167) can't tweak up the FSB. That unfortunate situation forced me to tweak the Athlon slot A itself. Even the fuzzy logic does not gives a single break for it...

The doctor is in the house! :p
Sorry been interstate for a few days...

Just been reading through your posts... Firstly the K7V is an excellent motherboard however like most KX-133 based boards it will have problems running Slot A Thunderbirds... I bought a Slot A 700MHz T-Bird & had no end of problems with it on my K7V... Works fine on the K7V-T however... Could only get her up to 850MHz (1.95V) Now it's just running stock as the family computer...
First time I've actually seen that mod to be honest - very interesting...

In terms of your old m/b have you flashed to the lastest BIOS? How much power you giving it?

my computer has plenty of power!
Just upgraded to a 300watt name brand powersupply which kicks butt. My temps are 41.5 c for Cpu at full load and system temps are at 33-35 C
i am running 2 hdds 2 cd roms ,overclocked video card.
I got a question is there any slot a board out there that i can use to take advantage of a slot a tbird 1000mhz. I mean there seems to be anything out there that can overclock the FSB successfully
I am happy with my board right now and video card . I think the best thing is to just upgrade to a geforce 2 gts pro 64 meg ddr and call it a day. I will wait 3-4 months down the road and just upgrade to the latest hottest board on the market that runs the athlon 4 and takes full advantage of DDR.

Abit KA7's were good FSB o/c'ers...

I've seen some at 130+ FSB...
