Well I have a problem with my Counter-Strike. If I put my in-game resolution to over 640x480, whenever I leave a game it will give me a black screen, and I can't do anything so I have to crash my comp. Anyone know why this is happening? The video mode I use is OpenGL, but it does this on Direct3D too.

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Intel Mobo
256 MB ATi Radeon 9800 Pro
1 Gig PC3200 DDR400 RAM
80 GB Harddrive

did you choose the right drivers... like in the video game. on the left side of the video mode options, they'll show like default, and some other options. i believe it should be on default

I once had a similar problem, when I had an 8500LE, but when it did work it was like 3 FPS. I called ATI about it and they said that their drivers weren't optimized to work with counterstrike and I would just have to deal with it. I had bought the card just so I could play CS at a decent speed. I was SO ****ed. I's assume that problem is fixed now, but you might just try reinstalling everything.

reinstall? download steam and cs. version 1.6? dunno. just stick a spare video card in there and see if it works. it might be your video card or it might be counter-strike. just gotta troubleshoot through it man.

Alright let me try re-installing although I don't think this will solve anything you never know. I know my other video card works at higher resolutions on my old computer.

Didn't fix the problem. Anyone?

Sounds like a driver problem with that particular card. All my clients that have the 128 Meg versions of that card have no problems with simmilar systems. What OS, and DirectX version do you have?

Windows XP Home Edition
I want to say I have DirectX 9.1

I just updated DirectX the other day and the game was still doing this before I updated.

Are you saying it playes fine but when you esc it black screens? If thats teh case then I have the same problem and always have so to leave a game I use the console and type quit. IF it plays ok and you can use quit to leave it doesnt really matter does it.

Yes it's a know issue. I believe that this was fixed in the newer catalys and omega drivers. BTW what drivers are you using?

Ultimator

I use the "Catalyst" driver that my vid card came with.

Thanks for all the help!

Well, I just tried joining a game, and my computer restarted automatically. When Windows loaded up it gave me this error message:
