View Full Version : UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I finally got this Duron 650 overclocked! As you can see by all of my posts tonight, I've been having trouble with overclocking my Duron...first it was the stubborn L1 bridges, then it was the BIOS settings. Well, after playing around with it for an hour and a half I finally hit the jackpot! I got this sucker all the way up to
930 mhz!! And it's running stable as a rock on this MSI K7T Turbo. My settings are 133x7 1.81v It's idling at 48 degrees which is pretty high. I guess this Coolermaster DP5-6H51 heatsink/fan just can't hold it's own. Does anyone have any suggestions? Im considering a Millenium Glaciator. I'm going to play around with my voltages and see if i can get it to run at a lower voltage.

Sure - that cooler will hold you back. They are quite good, but nowhere near as good as a "proper" HSF.
The Millenium Glaciator would do you proud.
these little durons are great, aren't they?
as for cooling, go for the glaciator! half the proce of a swiftech 462a and more performance! what a pleasure!

Congrats on the overclock - it can take a fair bit of perserverence, but it's good when it pays off. Just go with a better hsf - the Glaciator sounds like the best bet at the moment - and I'm sure you'll get even more out of that duron!

hey Andy do u know if that Glaciator would work o my slot-a athlon? if i have to jimmy-rig something i will doit cause there arent many hsf out there with killer performance for my slot cpu.
i tried contacting their site but have gotten no response.
thanx
i think you'd have a hard time getting a socket hsf onto a slot cpu with sufficient force. if you could, however, it would cool it very well... it's "just" the logistics that are a problem. personally, i don't think it would be worth the effort, but if you have $40 to try it, go for it!
there are some pretty good alpha slot coolers aren't there?
I just lapped the heatsink and applied some white silicon compound to it. Now it idles at 47 degrees. Is this temperature safe or should I set it back down until I get better cooling?

I imagine if it's idleing at 47C, it's probably running at about 55C under load - while I'd consider anything below 60C 'safe', I'd play it safe and reduce the overclock until you have better cooling. Put it this way - running so hot mightn't be too bad for the cpu, but it's unlikely to be good for it - wait till you've got the load temp down to 40 or so, then go for the big overclocks.
Rob...yeah. That's what Im gonna do. Im just elated that it actually pushed that far. It runs very stable...except for when I try to boot it doesnt post and I have to do the procedure over again.
d4rk3n, just noticed the end of your sig! hehehehe.. that's very cool! lol! :)
proze..thanks! came up with that myself! =)
