Hello,

New to oc'ing and was posting to clear up a few questions.

First I'd like to know what I should expect for oc'ing potential with my system.

Here's my humble rig

cpu=xp2100+ palomino
mobo=soyo dragon ultra kt400 (black edition)
ram=3x128 PC2100 Infineon (looking to upgrade to ocz pc3200)
psu=most likely junk, came with maxtop case 350w
hsf=stock amd (looking to upgrade to sk-7 with smart case fan II)
case=maxtop w/4 case fans
vid=ati radeon 9600 pro

Right now I have it oc'ed to 1.82ghz. The fsb is set to 140 with a multiplier of 13, it runs stable and fairly cool under load (42-45c). I've upped the fsb to 145 (vcore set to 1.850) and it'll eventually hang. Is this limit becuase of my ram? Or is the fsb limit 140 leaving my only option to unlock the cpu and upping the multiplier? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

I realize I need to get better cooling before I go any farther.

Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't expect much, since the core is palamino. Without changing the multiplier you can get to about 1.9 ghz...whether or not it's that stable I don't know.

edit: you would want to lower the multiplier and then raise the fsb to 166. That way your PCI would still be running at 33 and you wouldn't risk HD data corruption.

yea palminos generally dont oc very high.. even with good cooling and alot of voltage.. 2 ghz was like a max limit for palimnos.. if you relaly want to oc then tbreds are the way to go..

doesnt cost much to just get a Tbred 1700 or 1800+ for like 50 bucks on newegg

Excellent plan for cooling. Get a Barton 2500+, but it's probably better to spend half the money you would invest in a Barton 2500+ and split it between a $49 Thoroughbred B and a Power Supply upgrade. Here's the list again for you:

If you are in the US, there are only three known places to buy B's without paying a guarantee premium:

1700+ at gameve.com:

1700+ & 1800+ (That's just the two of those, not higher rated CPUs) at this place:

(click on 'next' at the bottom of the page.)

2100+ (that's just the 2100+, not lower CPUs) at newegg.com:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProdu...343&manufactory=1028&DEPA=1&sortby=14&order=1

Not that your mobo chipset is not PCI locked so PC3200 may be overkill as PC2700 goes to 180s FSB, the same as the safe FSB limit for your mobo. Good luck new member.
