View Full Version : my chip
is it a Dud it is a 1.2 Tbird
cuz i have a AXIA with a Y in the third line
and i can only get it to run at 1.33 @ 1.85 V
which is the most my board can handle without mods

It should not be a 'dud'. You have arguably the second most likely candidate for a successful overclocking experience.(T-bird stepping)
Have you tried running the processor with lower voltage?
What motherboard do you have, and what are it's overclocking features?
Lastly, as always, nothing is assured in overclocking, one can only try and stack the odds in their favor.

well i have tried lower voltages
and my mobo is the Abit kT7A

Are you attemping to overclock via the FSB, multiplier or both?
What are your temperatures?
Do you have an adequate PSU..AMD recommended, and are you monitoring voltages? If so, what readings are you getting on the 3.3 + 5V rails? Any dips in voltage?

Good. Your reported temperatures, please?
i have a MC462 with a sunon 36CFm fan with load i have 45C and case is 31C and no load i have no clue about cuz i always run Folding@home in the background

phiber, can you get your PC to post at anything above 1330Mhz?
Do you have the folding client load at start-up?
Your temps. shouldn't be the limiting factor at this point.
The possibility of a bum CPU for overclocking exists, but let's exhaust all of the possibilities we can.
Try and raise the FSB, adjust your VIO as necessary..it's best not to go over 3.6v for extended periods as that's default +10%.
I'll stop in tomorrow, and see how things are progressing.

There are KT7A boards out there that will not perform beyond an FSB of 133 Mhz. I know because the first one I bought was like that. I tried everything. New 400W PSU, PC150CL2 Ram, Mega cooling, Revamped cooling on Northbridge, tried different add-on cards, etc. Nothing worked. So I took advantage of NewEggs 30 satisfaction guaranteed policy, sent it back for another KT7A and that one went 150 Mhz FSB right out of the box, using the same components from the first one. Not all KT7As perform the same. It is a sad statement about Abits quality control process, perhaps even the VIA KT-133A chipset. I am very happy now. My 1.0G/266 runs 10x150 or 10.5x145 rock solid. If I turn up the Hoot Chute cooling system all the way, it will run 10.5x150, but the noise is bothersome. Your 1.2G/266 should be able to do the same thing on a KT7A with a good PSU, good RAM and adequate cooling.
