I use a conductive pen, but I've used a Ticonderoga #2 for a quick test.
There is an article (http://www.overclockers.com/tips314/) detailing the varying resistance values of various pencils...the pencil needs to be exceedingly sharp in order to to a reasonable job.

I use a soldering iron, tin the pads and drag it over. Pencil trick can ware off. Do it this way and no worrys about your bridge connections.

Hehee..., wish I was good a soldering, you should see some of the dodgy soldering jobs I have done on projects in College :D :D :D
does the solder adhere to the surface of the processor?

I used conductive paint (used for repairing traces on pcb), which I applied with the tip of a pen. A pencil works fine for many people - it even worked for me for 4 months, but then it started becoming unstable and I just couldn't unlock it with pencil anymore. Try with pencil if you like, as it may well be ok for you, but the best way to do it is with something designed to be conductive like the conductive pens/paint. Use a magnifying glass as well to make sure each blob of paint/graphite touches the two bridges it's meant to and nothing else.

A conductive pen costs about $10. Someone had a nice article on the home page about masking off the other bridges when you do it.
I used a Chemtronics brand pen from hosfelt.com
