By MX and TI I believe you are refering to the Geforce4's. The MX has only DirectX7 features, while the Ti has DX8. Realy, the MX is just a very fast Geforce2. As for the radeons, Pro, in most cases, just means faster. They are usualy the same card.

yes, the ti series are the premiums of the geforece 4's, basically faster memory and clock core speeds. The pro's of the radeon's are the same thing, although, people are modding the non pro's to pro speeds very easliy. Im not sure if the Np's are underclocked and use the same parts or if they are different in any way.

just something these guys havent mentioned yet, don't buy an MX. :)

Actualy, thats not good advice. Tell me 1 other card that you can pay $40 for and get near Ti200 speeds and can overclock far beyond? Most people who buy the card wont need the features anyway. Its just not futureproof.

the MX doesnt support nifty things like pixel shaders, also doesn't support a few DX8 features, but they overclock like demons and are SO worth $40 hehe :)

Yes, but due to low quality pcbs and other manufacturing shortcuts, its pretty easy to kill them. Still not a bad card.

It depends on what card you're talking about. For example:

GF2MX: Slightly crippled GF2 GTS (slower clocks, two pixel pipes instead of 4 (right?), SDRAM or 64-bit DDR instead of 128-bit DDR)

GF4MX: Completely different core than the GF4 Ti

Radeon 9100: Slower clocks than 9100pro; not crippled

Radeon 9500: Crippled 9500pro in that it has 4 pixel pipes instead of 8. Wait, it gets weirder... some models have 256-bit RAM and are crippled 9700s with 4 pixel pipes instead of 8

Radeon 9600: Slower clocks than 9600pro; not crippled
Radeon 9700: slower than 9700pro, not crippled
Radeon 9800: slower than 9800pro, not crippled
Radeon 9800se: crippled 9800pro; 4 pixel pipes instead of 8; some have 128-bit RAM and some have 256-bit RAM. Some vendors drop the "se" label and sell them as Radeon 9800s.

Hmm... that's all the MXs and PROs that I can think of off the top of my head.

True... good point.. but some arent too bad... I have a mx, and ti4200 right here, and the ti4200 is SOOOO much better =) Ima make a heatsink for my mx and see how far it will go.. its a gainward, so I expect it to atleast, decent. my Ti4200 on the otherhand.. im not willing to overclock for a while.. I need it! ;) Its a chaintech, and has a crappy plastic like fan on it... gets stuck way too easy... my gf 4 mx is missing a capacitor BTW =) Hopefully it may help it.. he he.. never hurts to hope eh? :p

The reason for that is because the original 9500's were never supposed to have 128mb of memory, until the final PCB was finished. However, 3rd party companies went ahead and did it using the original PCB anyways

Something not at all intended by ATi, but it none the less brought them lots of business

Your argument might have been valid last year, but these cards are damn near worthless now, so throwing $40 out the window doesn't seem like that great of a deal to me. And theres no way in hell any of these cards can match the power and features of a TI200 so don't even try to compare.

My GF2 runs most modern games just fine, albeit at lower resolutions... that's not exactly "damn near worthless".

he he ha... thats funny... I find them VERY usefull. $40 for a 64mb gf 4 mx 440 BGA, is a KILLER backup card! esp when your ti4200 is in repair. It plays MOHAA pretty darn well, ut2k3 wasnt too bad... as same res's as my ti4200. IQ wasnt quite as good, but the games were decent. $40 for a decent gaming card? its well worth it. Busting the capacitor off, and it STILL working is even better! :D
