View Full Version : Papst vs. Enermax
I'm having a hard time choosing between a PAPST 8412 N/2GL (http://www.papst.de/pdf_dat_e/S17gb.pdf) and a Enermax UC-9FAB (http://www.enermax.com.tw/uc-8fab.htm).
The enermax one is 92mm but pushes 47cfm at 28db while the 80mm Papst pushes 19.4 at 12db.
Will I be able to hear the Enermax or will it make a gentle humming sound? While next to my case, I wear headphones but I do other things in the same room, such as reading. Right now it has some generic fans making lots of noise, including a P4 stock hs (will be replaced).
One of the Enermax ones costs €12 but it has a fan grill and bolts with it, while 4 Papst ones are for sale €65 with no extras. Which is a better buy for the money?
Any input is welcomed.

From what i see, the enermax pushes more for not really a lot of noise.. plus it has accessories... well im a huge n00b but my logic pushes me to say buy the enermax...
my little "input" :)

Go with the Enermax. It pushes lots more air is what you want with it anyways for a decent dB rating. If anything you can 7V mod the fan to run quieter and still have more power then the Papst fan and basiclly running silent.
At 28dB its pretty quiet and you probley have other things in your case that make more noise then that fan.

wow those are expensive fans... you sure you cant find cheaper ones?? i know you're in finland and all hehe makes things more difficult. I normally dont spend more than a few bucks on the fans i get..
perosnally i have a tolerance level for noise are more or less around 30 db.. more than that and i can notice it.. the pabst is kinda weak i think.. not much air is being pushed by that..
i'd go with enermax

Now if u got the one that did 58 or 69 CFM of flow from one of those Papst fans (its in that link that you gave). I'd go with that get more preformance for same noise if not a little more for more preformance too.
Then again if the price is that high I surly wouldn't buy that then. Thats some expensive fans you'd be getting 16.25 a piece for that little airflow. Heck I got some 120mm fans that put out 58-90 CFM (thermal controlled) for a cheaper price. But like cherry said you are from Finland and of course prices very from country to country.
Heh, Finland is expensive for most comp stuff, and both of those are on SALE. I looked into U.K. bases shops since friends go there once in a while, for 2 92mm Panaflos and one TT Smartfan 2 its about €60 with shipping to London.
Makkarah, know any cheap stores, these ones are from http://www.jimmspc-store.fi/.

All i can say is OUCH with the prices man, I can't feel the pain of paying that much for fans but what yea got to do is what you got to do to get decent cooling :D.
Yep, its going to go into my custom rig. One intake, one exhaust and one ontop of my Akasa AK-370, its supposed to passively cool 2.53 P4b, but with a fan and good airflow, I'm sure it will go much higher.

I would look around for some electronic surplus stores in Europe. Pabst is a freaking GERMAN company afterall... you REALLY shouldn't have to pay those kind of prices.
Finland, big BIG taxes to upkeep a high quality welfare state, thats why we have the top schooling in the western world :D. I'd rather get cheap fans than go to school though :p.
Papst are higher quality than most makes of fans. They are pre balanced and make very little noise. If you look in the fan hub you'll see tiny holes. Sometimes you'll see little pieces of metal in those holes. Due to the balance, they vibrate less and so are quieter.
But they are pretty expensive.
If you get one, I'd suggest getting one with more CFMs that you can add a rheostat to.

I totally get you man... i live in israhell and down here.. well... i feel the pain too :(
I just have to wonder what it would cost to ship something like that to Finland, or anywhere in Europe for that matter, via USPS? I think I'll go to the P.O. tomorrow and find out, just out of curiosity. I shouldn't think it would weigh more than a pound. If I find out, I'll post here.
Hey, thanks Cuda. I still get stuff shipped to me from Malaysia, mostly cds *cough cough*.
I think the cheapest way to mail things is through snail mail, and have it registered, it cost almost nothing and makes sure that it doesn't get "lost" during delivey. Takes at the most 2 weeks I think. Attleast thats the way I know people ship stuff.

get the enermax, the speed is adjustable, plus if the fan ever dies on you at least u wont feel the pain of spending so much on an expensive fan as the papst
