I have everything except the chips. I plan on getting 2 Athlon MP 1.2Ghz. I would run 2 clients. How effective would it be? It would be running 24/7, would it keep up with my 2.4c @ 3.2?
Im also in the process of building a AMD XP1600 and a AMD XP1800. All I need for those is 2 psu's. That would give me 10+Ghz of Folding power, within my first 2 days of folding!
Thanks in advance guys!
Wow sounds like your off to a good start on adding the power there. I doubt the dually will keep up with the P4 however its production wont be too shabby, I think we would be talking about 400 PPW but i could be wrong on that maybe somebody with a similar system can give you more of an idea than I can.
As for the extra power you plan on adding, you could save yourself some money by buying one PSU to power both rigs rather than two, theres a guide aroubd here somewhere I shall dig it out for you, and see what you think it will be less hassle to just buy two PSU's but if you think your up to it then you may aswell save your self some money :)

It wouldn't keep up with your P4 @ 3.2. Its a great way to add power, but I'd recommend getting something you can run at least @ 2.0 GHz/chip. Maybe Bartons, XP2400s, 2100s, etc.? They are easy to mod to turn into MPs. I'm running XP1600s in my dually and it runs very nicely.

Nod. I have 2 2100+ chips running at 2ghz no problemo. ITs a fairly silent rig too considering that my video card's fan is the loudest component in it ;) This rig folds like there is no tomorrow!

How many ppw?
I get about 550ppw with my Abit NF7-S rig in my sig.

I agree, over 2 Ghz is where it's at. I get right at 550 PPW with the 2.3Ghz 1700 Tbred B in my sig. I should have the old Pally 2100 back up and running in a week or so. :) I plan on building a dually to fold with but it will be built for other tasks, not just folding. If it's just for folding, $150 Tbred layers is where it's at.
how do you guys figure ppw for a single rig?

I highly recommend getting athlon XP's and doing the simple L5 mod to turn them into MP's. You could then get faster CPU's for the same price. Espeically good if the board you have can't overclock. XP's are always cheaper than MP
's and filling 1 bridge with conductive gunk is oh so easy.

Be careful about doing this with newer chips, as they have made it a little more challenging to reverse-engineer the chips. In slightly older ones it's a doddle though. This should save you a few quid done right :)

Its still easy. I can put a drop of defogger in the pit and wipe away the excess. Don't even have to connect dots anymore. And anyway, I was think morelike XP 2000+ or 2100+ palominos for a cheap dually. with no worries about SSE problems and no consideration given to overclocking. 2400's or even 2100's or 1800 Tbreds would also be godd choices if the board can overclock.
Well forget everything that they guys said. the dual MPs/XPs will suck, unless you set them to fold under the username drdingo21 and the team 32. :D
Im j/k. They will do great, But i would also reccomend the XP route. Good Luck
I could get about 1000 PPW from my dual 1800Mhz if it folded to the max. Very easy to mod the XP's, unless you get the new packaging. Nice to have that power when you do other things like video editing too :)

Probably around 900 or so based on only a pretty small sample size (the last 4 days). This is my main rig and its newly built so its hard to get a good estimate until I stop messing with it and let it fold all the time. Norton ghost on the fresh build took it down for about 10 hours etc...

I'm hoping to get ~1000ppw running an MP duallie at 2250 :)
OTOH a 3GHz dual Xeon rig ought to be good for 1500ppw :D
