I think it might be the voltage but i dont have that much experience to change it....in other words, i dont know how...i have a feeling it's on the chip itself possibly the L7 bridges. Well anyways, i closed the L1 bridges and put it back into the socket. I boot it up but then it just freezes after it passes the awards screen. They aren't touching, the bridges i mean. I closed them with a lead pencil. Anyone have any suggestions on fixing this problem?

You have not supplied enough information. It would help if you included the following;
1. CPU - type, speed and version.
2. Mobo - make and model
3. HSF - make and model
4. Ram - make , amount and mhz.
5. System temperatures.
All these things will help us, help you.

if i were u id use a circut repair pen to connect those l1 bridges sometimes a pencil just doesnt cut it. graphite isnt the greatest conductor some times the signal generated by the chip is to weak to pass over the bridge. when graphite is used try the repair pen i bet it will solve your problem

I would be upset too!! I couldn't even imangine because I just did the same thing to my L1 but it worked. My suggestion to you would deffinately use something better than a pencil. Defogger repair, etc. and reconnect them in the order they came then make sure it works and try it again but really you should invest in a overclocker freindly mobo like abit kt7a-raid or a asus 7v. because doing the micro surgery it takes to screw with your L7 voltage on the chip is crazy and you"ll have to do it more than once!

i had no trouble w/ the pencil trick, though it did mess up aa couple times. make absolutely sure they arent touching the other bridges. use .5 lead mechanical pencil, works best imho. erase the lead and start over if it still doesnt work. my comp began not starting up once when the trick wore off or got messed up. it's probably same reason why yours isn't. try again and if that doesnt work then gow ith something like the fog thingy or whatever.

. . . .
and not like this:
.-.-.-.
.-.-.-.
good luck :)
and ps make sure you dident accedently boum anything like the vid card or mem, reste you bios, and if all elese fails, dis-connect the bridges. good luck :)

im sure they're not touching and they're straight i used a straight edge to write it on there. so they're not touching.
This is a shot in the dark, but did you use a "real" lead pencil? In other words HB 2 lead? Those "fake wood" pencils that look and feel kind of like plastic don't contain enough true lead in the element to conduct properly.
Just a thought.

it's a pentel mechanical pencil...it's supposed to have lead??? like real lead? i thought graphite can do it... but i guess not
