View Full Version : !st time OverClocker Help...
Ok well, i'd like to OC my system. I.m kinda new to this, but i've read alot and i still wanna get input , so i don't mess it up.
System=
1.2 Tbird unlocked
Abit KT7-Raid mobo
512mb's pc133 sdram cas2 2-2-2 Crucial
300w PS
MC-462a HSF w/Delta
4 80mm Delta 68cfm Fans
2 120mm Sunon's
Temp 27c idle/33c load
I've taken a look at Bios and got kinda confused on what to do, n what to change.
It says the following:
Cpu operating speed -User Define
Multiplier Factor 100x12.5
Cpu FSB/PCI Clock
Cpu FSB Plus (Mhz) 0-28
Speed Error Hold
Cpu Power Supply
Core Voltage 1.85
I/O Voltage 3.3v
SiSandra says its currently at 1308, and thats cause i just changed the multipier Factor to 12.5, thats the highest it said. But i noticed u could change the FSB/PCI Clock higher, but i didn't want to mess it up.
I'd like to get to 1.5 if its possible. Tks ahead of time.
And yes , the Fans r loud , but it doesn't bother me at all :)

why are you running 100 x 12.5? you should be running a FSB of 133 mhz.. or possibly higher depending upon how good your components are. Start of with something like 133 x 9 and slowly increase your multiplyier untill it becomes unstable, then step it back a bit and try the same with your FSB done with ( Cpu FSB Plus (Mhz) 0-28 )
I would also suggest reading the beginners guides on the front of this site and the excellent manual that comes with the KT7A-Raid as this explains everything.
I know the fans are loud, I have 5 (120mm) however a 300 watt does not deliver not enough power for my system and the fans which is why I run two PSU's.. I would suggest upgrading your PSU to at least 400 watt as this will effect your chances of getting closer to your goal.

Actually I think he said he's got the KT7-Raid, not the -a- version. In that case you ought to be running 100MHz fsb, as 133 just won't work. You're doing the right thing, and as your temps look to be pretty impressive (33C load for a 1.2gig tbird at 1.85V is damn impressive :) ) you should be able to get quite a bit higher - I'd say 1400 isn't unreasonable and yes, some guys do get to 1500 though I don't want to get your hopes up...
Not quite sure why Sandra says 1300 - should be 1250. Anyway, seeing as you're at the highest multiplier possible, you do need to raise he fsb now - I'd have thought you could get to around 110MHz with that board and components, assuming the chip can take 12.5x110 (1375MHz). It ought to be able to, so go for it - just raise the fsb a step at a time, and test thouroughly for stability at each step. Let us know how it goes.
good luck, keep an eye on the temps.
Let it 'burn' in for a while at each speed increment.
eg 3DMark, Folding, etc
Ok, so my first step should be changing the FSB/PCI Clock, and then change the FSB Plus (Mhz)0-28. Do i take it up in increments of 1 ,2 , 5?
Also i tried putting a 400w PS in , but my comp wouldn't boot up for some reason, so i put the 300 back in, and it works fine , kinda weird.
And i just noticed when i boot up my system that it says 104 x 12.5 1300mhz, but in bios it says 100x 12.5. Must be a bug.
Ok well i tried to change the FSB/PCI clock to 133/44mhz but it wouldn't boot up.
So i changed the FSB Plus (Mhz) to 10 and its now at 1425 114x12.5. When i tried to bump it to 15 119x12.5 i got all sorts of system file errors and it wouldn't boot up. So then i tried 12 116x12.5 it still gave me the errors.
So i'm back at 1425 114x12.5 Core Voltage is 1.79v now and i'm at 28.1 c idle and 35 c load.
Hmmm , ok i after i posted my last post it locked up on me , weird.
The limiting factor is going to be your motherboard. The kt7 series can't do the 133mhz fsb like the kt7a series can. I have the same motherboard and I could only get an fsb of +4-+5 before weird things started happening. I've got a kt7a on the way to me and I've replaced my Duron 650 (hit 1080mhz) with a 1.2/266 Tbird that I can't wait to overclock. I've also got a watercooling kit on the way (I got it for 60 bucks used) so heat shouldn't be a problem.
Swap your kt7-raid for a kt7a or kt7a-raid and you'll hit your 133 fsb.
K, well i kept getting locked up at 1425, so now i'm down to 1363 :( oh well, i ran some benchmarks and its ok.
its only the mobo that is holding u back!! But u could try raising the io voltage a bit!! try 3.4 and u might get higer fsb but dont raise it over 1.5.
