Thinking about picking up a couple new games and I've been out of the gaming loop this summer. What's new and exciting in the world of single player action packed shoot 'em uppers with great graphics? Heard Half Life 2 and Max Payne 2 (plus a few others) are on the radar screen, but haven't been released yet. What's currently out that's worthy of my hard earned bucks? I love stuff like MOHAA, Nobody Lives Forever, Black Hawk Down, Half Life, Quake, Wolfenstein, and Serious Sam to give you an idea what I'm after.

I like ravenshield alot. Ofc its a different style of game than those that you listed, and really its even better online that in single player, but its a great game regardless! :D

I'd be the one to say ... HALO :D .. it just got out yesterday and it blows me away with the vehicle and everything .. for you Halo haters out there, shut up :D. I played UT2003 and although it's more beautiful with the eye candy, it doesn't offer anything new and interesting ... unlike HALO :D

BTW, MP2 is not first person shooter.

For single player as for ones that are available right now there is Chaser and Call of Duty is coming out really soon iirc. Chaser seems pretty decent so far. Standard fps type action.

I loved the first Max Payne, so I'll probably have to put that on my list. Hmmm, Doom 3... I'll check that out. Never heard of this Halo. Looks like I'll need to find out more about it. Thanks for the good suggestions... keep 'em coming. Got cash burning a hole in my pocket.

Looks like Doom3 will be one of my new purchases.

I already have Unreal 2 and I like it... is UT 2004 single player? I thought that was multiplayer?

Unreal Tournament is mostly multiplayer but has a pretty decent Single player campeign, not that the plot is good, but its just run around and shoot stuff.

Ok, I bought the MOHAA Breakthrough expansion pack. Still need at least one more game that's already released. Looking at several of the ones that have been suggested.

batboy,

I have one more for you, and you can get it right now.

splintercell...OK, it's 3rd person, yet it was one of my all time favorites. I had lots of fun sneaking around and dong crazy things in this game. very opened ended, as to how you want to play it..run and gun(not smart) or sneaking up behind and slowly taking out the npc's one at a time.

I also have one more game you'll need to wait for...
deus ex2.
this will be the one of the best FPS out that will get very little press....deus ex was the same, yet got game of the year from lots of sites.
if you never pick up deus ex, you can get it for about $10 now.
it's the most open ended game I ever played. heck, it has 4 different endings.

good luck on your search

Try Jedi Knight Jedi Academy. Its kind of first person. Every weapon you have is viewed through first person except the lightsaber. Pretty cool so far. I think the first person story is kinda bad, but multiplayer is really entertaining. Give the demo a shot first.

you have moh so pick up breakthrough...

"BattleField 1942 with the Deseret Combat and Eve of Distruction Mods" - :burn: i am sooo burned out of bf and dc it makes me queasy to here of them :p

if they would have taken the 1st person aspect of moh (the weapons and responsiveness) and put that into bf i'd be right alongside the masses.

I know Battlefield 1942 has been suggested and I've heard lots of peeps claiming how good it is, but I downloaded and played the demo and was unimpressed. Maybe the demo don't do the game justice or something.

Q149, I already have Soldier of Fortune 2 and you're right, it's good.

Beginning to look like I'll try Halo.

Also, as soon as Max Payne 2, Half Life 2, and Doom 3 are released I'll be picking those up too. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Call of Duty has been suggested a couple of times. Maybe I should keep on eye on that one too.

Try Serious Sam 1 or 2....you can find them at the store for usually $20 or less. The single player mode is pretty entertaining. :)

You can never go wrong with Halo. Splinter Cell (3rd person, like Max Payne/Hitman series) has plenty of the arse kickery qualities you are in the market for, BatBoy. GTA Vice City is another of my personal fav's.
