Hey I finally found the time to pencil my Duron so I could get down to some serious overclocking. After changing the multiplier a little, just to see if my pencilling worked, it automatically entered my BIOS setup again, stating there was an incorrect setting for my CPU speed

I'm pretty sure this just means my bridges are still locked, but I just wanted to make sure

And what type of pencil would be ideal for unlocking, or even more permanent and sure way of unlocking.
thanks

Sounds as though they are still locked - a better method would be to use a conductive pen or conductive paint, both of which are used for repairing pcb traces and can be picked up at Radio Shack I believe. A drop of the paint/ink on the end of a pin can be applied to each bridge and dries almost instantly to give a much better connection than you could ever achieve with pencil.

The same thing happened to me with the pencil trick. I went and got some conductive paint from the local auto parts store. It works very well. And if it does spread more than you want it to, you can clean it up with alcohol if you get it quickly (all the articles I've read say acetone, but alcohol worked fine, I had it at the ready.)
