my system
duron 800
asus a7v133
SUPER ORB COOLING
super orb has 2 fans, inner is 12000rpm and outer is 5400rpm. surprisingly, the inner fan is much quiter than the outer fan. the outer fan is much too loud, so i disabled it.

after extensive testing, i found tat the outer fan only reduces the temp by 2c

now my duron 800 overclocks to 1ghz, but runs at 50degrees after a few rounds to quake3.

is 50 degrees ok for a duron 800? or will it damage it?

my stats
duron 800 1.6v (all default no overclock)
after stressing cpu: 46c

duron 800 1.75v
after stressing cpu: 50c

duron 800@1000 1.75v
after stressing cpu: 52c

also, is this tem normal for a super orb? or have i applied the silicon compound wrongly? (i applied a very thing layer and made sure it touched the duron die)

52 c on load is not bad with a Duron however I personally try to keep mine below this.

my Duron 800 @ 1050 .. cpu @ 47 c loaded , System @ 26 c loaded

Your temps are a little warm. Try getting a better heatsink and some arctic silver and you should see a big drop. Also, if you drop it more you can overclock it more usually.

please answer my q

have i installed the superorb properly?

is this SAFE or not i plan to use the cpu max 2 years

While your temps are not at all bad the Orb is not a particularly good heatsink and you may obtain a temperature drop by moving to a better heatsink.. I believe that this is what rugby is trying to tell you.

I however would not be real concerned as if the temperature you reach after stressing the CPU is 52c it must idle around 45 - 48c I would have thought which is acceptable.
AMD suggest that the Duron can take more temperature than this, while I personally watch my temperatures closely and always aim to keep them below 50c loaded.
I am most certainly not going to claim that your tempratures are normal or safe or that your Duron will last two years, as we all have to take responsibility in our actions and by overclocking you increase heat which can effect component life.. While 52c loaded does not really concern me, I would take steps to lower this temprature as I personally view above 50 c as being a little to hot, but this is my point of view.. nothing more and should be taken as such

there is absolutely NO way i can tell you, or anyone else...
the ORB is on correctly.

because... i am not there to look...
are the tabs of the clip on/under the tabs of the socket on both sides?
(how can you put a hsk on wrong???)

52* at stock is not good, no.
and raising the fsb or vcore... you will have problems.
i don't know of anyone who has had a duron for 2 years, stock or otherwise.

and we could all assure you everything is fine and it'll live for ten years,
then lightning hits your house tomorrow.

if you want insurance that everything will be fine for a long time...
don't overclock.
and even still, it.. or anything else, may die tomorrow.
even ppl die suddenly.

if you want to have fun, then stop sweating a $40 chip, and play with it...

but first, insure against premature death with a $40 millennium glaciator hsk/f combo and lower those temps.

really, i have no money, but if my chip dies.. so what? i learned somethin' i hope... then i'll scrape up some cash by not eating... and buy another.
thats why its a hobby...
if it was a matter of life and death ... well... :D i'd still play with it! :)

plus... with a fan blowing on top of a non-moving fan....
of course it won't cool! :D
get rid of that orb.. hang it on the christmas tree... or mod it into an air freshener for the car or the can... they ain't no good for the duron or athlon.
socket 7 or 370 is even questionable.

well the heatsink is on REALLY tight. i know i attacked the heatsink properly,

i just need to know if u put the thermal compound on right (a applied a thing layer and made sure it came in contact with cpu)

i have a stock celeron 466cooler, is tat betta than the super orb?

that celey cooler is probably worse, i have a stock cooler of the same variety, and i believe the Sorb would be better. Your temps are about what I would expect from a Sorb. My question is, what are the ambient temps? That should tell you how close you are getting. I really would spend even $19.00 to get a Fop 32-1 hsf, that is much better than the Sorb.

aiks.. so suprise to hear that your tem is loaded at 52c... i'm using the Super Orb too.. but my current tem is about 33c-35c (while running CS) running Duron800@1000Mhz with 1.83v... besides, my default before i overclock my processor is 31c-33c..Can i know whether u got put thermal grease on top of ur chip? Now is my 3 weeks of my Super Orb n 1000Mhz running 24 hrs a day.. 7 days a week.. 3 weeks hmm...... what you think??

Im currently runnin my duron 800 @ 950 - 1.75v
My temps underload r round 52c.
ive been runnin at this speed and temp since day one of purchasing chip (roun 2 months now) and its still kickin... official amd tech states they can run upto 60c safely (fark that but)
im using a thermoengine with an 80mm sunon 42cfm fan... think me needs water or peltier :) (australia is pretty warm)

yes i put thermal compound on the cpu die. where are u living? im living in australia. wat is ambient temperture? my room temp is prob 20c

Brisbane dude....
Ambient temperature is the temp of the surrounding air (ie room temperature)

U have done nothing wrong its just the damn superorb that sucks. They are known for killing durons/athlons so i would suggest u to invest in an globalwinfop32 or 38 or u will kill that poor duron
