Good morning all.

So far so good.

Have some more details on my Chip
is S code is SL6Q8 made in Malaysia. When i saw the S code i had a mini panic, as its not in the cpu section of overclockers.com.

Oh no thought me!! have i been stung with a dud?

So Step one;

Up the FSB to 140. Result? Thumbs up
Up the Fsb to 150. Result? Thumbs Up

This is gonna take for ever i thought. So i did a quick mental calculation 3000/18 = 166

Up the FSB to 166. Result? Thumbs Up. :attn:

So its currently running at 2987Mhz still at default voltage, and yet to break 50c or 122f for the americans...

If decided to wait at that for a few hours, and make sure it dont start corrupting SETI WU's. Ive run to benchmark programs and they say its runnign fine, but id like to be sure as i dont have another NZ$500 to replace it.

Ah yes, so youll be wondering about cooling??

Well stock intel, i ripped the heat xfer pad off and went down to the shop for some AS III. and they dont sell it, in fact all they had was some TITAN silver grease. Now i know nothing about this stuff, but as it wasnt too expensive i figured its not as good as AS III it has a Thermal Resistance of 0.06 C-in/W if that means somthing to anyone perhaps they could enlighten me...
I spent hours lapping the HS off my Willy so i could give it to this one, and lo and behold they are different heatsinks!! A guy said that if you lap your heatsink you "have to" use AS III, so since i couldnt get any i havnt done that yet.

Oh yeah, you may want my machine specs...

Asus P4B533
P4 2.4b @ 2987 (SL6Q8) packed on 09/11/2003
Asus V9560 GeForce FX5600
256megs of Seitec PC 2700

Cheers.

Just an After Thought, In the details about my Mobo (via Asus Probe) it says it supports up to 3200Mhz, does this mean I cant clock any higher than 3200Mhz? or that its limited to the P4 3.2 chip?

Cheers again

I just enlightened myself.

Went to Arctic Silvers Website Arctic Silver (http://www.arcticsilver.com/as3.htm) and discovered that the Thermal Resistance of that was only <0.004°C-inē/Watt . That looks like quite a bit of a difference to me...

Hi ChazFx....
I also got Intel 2.4B GHZ and Asus P4B533 MB too.
Did U check your MB manual to see it support PC2700
cause on Asus site it say this:

"Memory 3 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 2GB PC2100 / PC1600 ECC / non-ECC DDR memory ".

so I bought PC2100 and it does not overclock much.
But I will replace the heatsink pad from Intel and put
AS III on it soon as I have times :)

THanks

Worry not,

The P4B533 has undocumented PC2700 Support. :attn:

I was thinking about that today, and im guessing that 166 fsb is gonna be all im gonna get out of this baby cos of that :(

As written by asus; here (http://www.asus.com.tw/inside/Techref/qa-mb0822.htm)

Q: Does P4B533 series motherboards support DDR333 memory?

A: According to the Spec, P4B533 only supports DDR 266 (133MHz) and DDR 200 (100MHz ). But if you wishes to overclock, you can still use DDR 333 (166MHz).
We cannot guarantee DDR 333 memory works stably with P4B533, because it does not follow the Spec. If you want to use DDR333, you will need to use FSB 133MHz CPU and set CPU/Memory frequency Ratio to 3:4. But if you don't change it like setting Auto or 1:1, then the memory will still run at 266 or 200 MHz.

So basically Operation Beat Trikotret has failed :bang head , untill i get a better Mobo/Ram. So ill save up another $600 or so and do that :D 2987Mhz is still a lot faster than my 1.5 willy @ 2Ghz

Good luck :D

I running the vcore at 1.6v. However, in Windows the vcore shows 1.7 becuase the Asus p4pe overvolts. I also think that my ram is stopping me from going higher since I'm using 2 sticks of 512. The mem ratio is 1:1

That's very possible, I'd yank one stick and find out (even if you intend to put it back in, just to learn).
