Hey

guys i just joined and im a bit of a power hungry pc user always want it to be faster when it is im happy for a week or 2 then i want it faser all the time.

right i am new to O/c ing i have sort of idea about multipliers etc...

not much as i would want to know..

here is my system specs then ill ask me questions

Amd Barton xp 2800+ its running multiplier 12.5x, fsb 166.4 bus speed 332.7, (all standard)

cpu family 6, model a, stepping 0,

right the rest

1gb ddr 400 saitek is the make (512mb x 2)
Geforce Fx 5200 ultra 128mb PNY
Gigabyte 7NNXP bios rev. f13
Volcano Xaser 11 with ducting mod using OCZ ultra 2 paste
2 case fans
1 x maxtor 160gb 8mb cache
1 x maxtor 80gb 8mb cache
Q-tec 550w PSU

right i tried using easytune to do things but its absolutly W**k cant do nothing on it apart from look.

right what i want to know is :

1) If luck is on my side what could be the highest possible speed i could get to? or what speed would i realistically reach?

2) Is ther any place that would unlock my cpu for me i dont feel confident messing with it!

3) Is my volcano 11 and 2 case fans enough cooling im also using which i was told is best on the market when i bought it is OCZ ultra 2 thermal paste.

by the way i aint sure if my cpu details is what you would want but i dont fancy taking the heatsink n fan of if the given details are ok.

thanks alot guys

i hope you can help me out

go to the faq sticky and look at altec's oc guide or look for hitechjb1's 1700+ on air thread...search by name or topic and you'll find them...good luck...

realistic range is probably 2300~2400.

with luck? not sure. 2600?

don't know about anyone who'd unlock your multipliers for a fee... but you don't have to do it.

set your multipliers using the wire in socket method, which requires no mods to the processor.

the volcano 11+ is a pretty horrible heatsink (although it looks nice). case flow might be enough with 2 case fans if you placed them carefully.

I'd suggest you try removing the volcano 11+, and mount the smartfan 2 on the stock AMD heatsink. I ended up getting better temperatures using the stock AMD heatsink for my 2400+ (TbredB).

hey thanks for the rapid help but how would i do that ?

you mentioned about my fan and heatsink i ther any links that could be posted for me :D cheers

As i said im new i have resonable knowledge of computers but overclocking i have read various fourums but as a few peep probably have thought i feel even more confused lol

so am i right in saying really the only horrid things in my rig is my memory but its expendable well atleast 1 stick is.

thanks again

sorry about that, let me give you some more info.

the fan mounted on the Volcano 11+ is the Smartfan 2.

what I meant is to unscrew that fan, and using screws, mount it on the stock AMD heatsink (won't fit perfectly, but 2 screws will hold it in place.) and mount that on your CPU rather than the Volcano 11+.

I think the reason the Volcano 11+'s heatsink is not that efficient is due to all the fins being stuck on using some kind of thermal expoxy rather than solder.

I'll go look for the link to the socket settings...

edit: here (http://www.ocinside.de/html/workshop/pinmod/amd_pinmod.html) it is.

basically you take a tiny piece of wire, bend it into an U shape, and stick the two ends into the socket holes to connect the two pins that go into those holes.

on that page I linked to, you can select either the cpu view or socket view. socket view is probably easiest to work with.
