My cable isp requires me to log in everytime I reboot my computer, its really annoying...you have to enter their website and put your login & password, after that you are able to surf normally....
I was wondering, do u guys know a program or something that could log you in automatically?

Thanks.

WOW ... that kinda sucks having to log in evertime at their web page . I think they do that to save bandwidth . Earthlink tries to do the same thing (ADSL) , but I was able to get around their log in by having PPPOE on my router and then deleating their software .
I just swithed to cable last week and no log-in is reguired (Altrionet) .

yeah if you got a router it might keep you logged on constantly.

Cable relies purely on your modems MAC address to connect . Each cable modem has its own unique/ individual MAC address inside (on chip) only for that modem . If you "delete" the ISP's software (if you installed any) then you should be able to connect online automaticly without having to log in . Your connection will be truley be connected all the time without any log-in procedure .

Give it a try .... ;) :D

Set up a crappy old P1 100Mhz box to act as the "stay alive" gateway box, set it up to send a ping out at random intervals to keep your connection alive, this way you won't have to sign back in every time you reboot your main computer, since the gateway computer is still connected and not rebooted.

Well, I don't even think you would need a box...all you would have to do is either keep browsing or use something like BoB said on the computer....

I used that when I was on Dial-up...

Good luck :)

That might just be the weirdest thing I've ever heard. :eh?: Logging into a cable connection through a webpage. Some things just boggle the mind.

What happens if you don't login? Does it just not let you go to any sites on the internet? Or does it redirect you to the login page or something?

After you log in, what happens? Does it just say, "Ok, you can surf now?" Does any of your configuration change in Tools/Internet Options/Connection tab before & after logging in? Do you have to re-login after closing the browser?

When your not logged in, can you ping things out on the internet?
Start/run/type cmd hit enter, then type:
ping www.overclockers.com
ping 208.249.124.215
see if those work if you are not logged in.

Welcome to the Forums!

Well, it doesnt logoff everytime you reboot, just if u take more than 10minutes do come back to windows...
The ISP logs you off if they send a ping after 10 minutes and you dont reply....

Answering the questions....

Well, if you close the browser, you will still be connected..
It works this way: you boot up your computer and you have to login so they free your ip for web surfing...

About the suggestion to the Anti-IDLE disconnection, that wont work because the program would be disabled once I reboot the computer...or turn it off for more than 10minutes.

finalizing ... this isp is really ****ing me off...Im about to call them to say some **** stuff...

Thanks for you atention, folks...
....and still expecting more suggestion ;)

Well, you have to have an IP to get to their webpage. I'm just curious on how exactly they are blocking you, and allowing you through an online form.

If it is ping timeouts that cause it to reset, then you could go out and get a cheap router, or failing that, a small computer, like a pentium and use that as a proxy, so even when you reboot or shutdown, it's always online.

how much would I spend on a cheap router? ( and what exactly is a router...I'm not familiar to this word in english )
Yea..it resets because of ping timeouts...

They give access by filling the form with the login because my ip is dynamic....so they link me a IP to my cablemodem...

i bought my router for a little under $50 although ive seen cheaper down to about $30. dont know how good they r but u wont need a fancy one anyway.

Yes, it redirects me to the login page

The pings work normally...even before login in...

Do you guys know a way to sabotage this login and configure the modem to automatically transpass it?

got my router for $20. It's a DLink DL-650.

the $20 was after a $25 rebate though, and it was on sale on top of that, but with 802.11g becoming more popular by the day, Im sure the prices are fallling fast.

There's one for $17. I've never bought from that store, but they have an 8.63 rating on reselleratings.com, which is darn good.

Note that this is a 2-port router, meaning it will only get one computer onling. If you want to add more computers to your network, you'll need a switch.

Also note that Newegg has a switch for free after rebates right now.

Looks to me like they have some kind of Isa Server as the default gateway....

I think the best way is to call they´re support line, to see if they have a way to loggin automatically.

Boa Sorte!

Yup, what TheCrow said sounds about right. That sucks.

Do you have anything set in your Tools/Internet Options/Connection tab, in the "LAN Settings"... specifically any "automatic configuration script" or proxy server? If so, try removing it (write it down first), and see if that gets you by it.

There are no config scripts or anything...nothing is set on the lan settings... :/ and the ISP said It was impossible to login automatically because my IP was dynamic :/

Too bad han? Well, I think I will just have to keep logging in OR buy a p100 box ;/

Thanks for all, folks.

still cant believe that if yur not active on the line itll just boot you......almost as bad as friggin dial up.

Jorran
10-10-03, 04:07 PM
yea, it its that bad :/
I think they are doing this because they have a limit...speed vs price....and some ppl were changing the modem config to have more speed....logging in you can't do that...you have to use the speed they set you up...

come on now, nothing's that bad.

I mean not having an always-on connection is one thing, but at least you still have the speed.

Jorran
10-10-03, 06:11 PM
Heh, dont count on that, my speed is 64k, and i pay 70 bucks for it...well its brazil....thats all I have to say.
