View Full Version : trying to over clock - not having much luck 1.33/266
I have a 1.33/266 athlon (axia, y) in a abit KT7A -R, Win ME, and I cannot even get the FSB past 134MHz (changing nothing else)
On final boot the mouse freezes, along with everything else, and I have to hit reset.
At default speeds its OK, but even then when I am playing a game I get to 52 deg C - is this something to be concerned about?
Using a Volcano II air cooler, and my intent is to stay with air cooling but figured I should be able to get to 1.5GHz at least.
Any suggestions of what to play with in terms of BIOS etc? (voltage I have kept a default at this time as well)

Do you have PC 133 SDRAM? Maybe you could try to increase the VCore Voltage by 1 step in your BIOS. It's a fact that those TB 1333 are getting quit hot. 52 degrees C is still OK but I think it will skyrocket when you succeed in overclocking.

It looks like a good setup you have.
I'm not familiar with your mobo, so someone who has one should be able to give you some BIOS settings.
1) Your temp of 52C no o/c is a bit too high. A good temp will be low 40C or even below at load after you o/c. So at 1.33 you should aim for below 40C at load.
2)What memory are you using and what spec? Like Crucial PC2100 with CL of 2 or 2.5. I suspect if your FSB is so sesitive that your BIOS setting and memory specs are not in sync.
Anybody with a Abit?
The memory is samsung PC133 512MB. (CL2) but i think the MoBo is set for CL3.
Funny thing is that I have two mem sticks but discovered after 12 hrs of hell that my system either due to WIN ME or drivers for the video, is unbootable with 1GB.
Probably need to play with the BIOS settings.
Also the ambient temp is around 30 deg (Its hot) so that is a big contributer.

I have Samsung 256 MB CL2.5 sticks which I run at 2CL. I set my memory to 8-8-6-2-2-2-2 in the bios and it works fine at 133FSB. I use a FIC AD11 mobo so I'm not familiar with your mobo.
What do you want to do with 1G of mem and win ME get W2K?!
Does your system work fine with only one stick?
DO you OC at all?
As my CPU temperature increases, my OC settings have to decrease. This is normal perfromance thresholds you encounter with CPU temperature. For example:
10x133 good to 50C
10x136 good to 48C
10x140 good to 45C
10x145 good to 42C
10x150 good to 39C
10.5x145 good to 35C
10.5x150 good to 34C
Personally, I would never let my CPU run above 50C, but that is just my opinion. You give up too much OC performance.

yeah. i have a 1.33 also. with the new steppings.. havent OC yet. i idle at 40C the lowest.. then with my body heat it rise 1 C. under set it runs at 45-46C.. i;m using a swiftech MC370.. what are the temps for an air cooled OCed 1.33?
