View Full Version : Headsets: why are there no good ones?
i wouldn't mind spending upwards of 50-75 on a GOOD headset with over the ears cans and a quality mic... but there isn't such a thing as far as i can tell.
i'm sick and tired of these crappy 20-40 headsets that think they are the best thing since sliced bread. they are horribly uncomfortable and most of their mic's suck.
anyone have any suggestions on a better headset?
or...
i have a nice set of HD580 Sennheisers that would be sweet if i could somehow add a microphone... maybe a lapel mic??
You could grow your own by buying a good stereo headset (even Radioshack headsets are better than the cr.. that is being sold for computers) and run it through a stereo amp that is connected to the sound card throught he high level output. Then add a good mike and you are in business.

I ended up using my mic boom w/stand, kinda like a radio DJ when I was doing UT clan stuff a year/two ago. I already had the mic, boom, and stand for music recording, so it wasn't a big deal... but all that gear cost $200+ alone otherwise.
Unfortunately I have been looking, like you, for a decent combo and have come up empty. The only combos available are professional and cost hundreds of dollars.
Think musiciansfriend.com would have some.
Go to a flea market or electronics swap meet. You can pick up a good high power stereo amp for less than $20. You can also pick up a desk microphone at one of those places. You can get them cheap too. The combination would give you a good setup.

I know at one of the local cyber cafes, the mic's are just one cord coming from the PC with the device at the end... it can be attached to the headset in a couple ways (it's not intended to do that, but it works).
