Same here, but I'm running a SlotA. If you plan on OCing a Slot you'll probably need a GFD. I know there is a pencil trick for the sockets. If anyone knows of an easier way to unlock on a SlotA, PLEASE let me know. Here, I'll add a question. How will the GFD allow me unlock the multipliers? Will it be in my BIOS or on the chip itself?

gfd for slot a:
it allows u to use little dip switches to increase cpu speed in 50mhz increments and u can adjust the voltage also but be careful and get a temp probe to keep a close eye on ur temp.
go to ebay and search for: GFD
got mine from schlomo for 24.00 and it works perfect.
you will have to remove the black box covering ur processor to clip on ur gfd.
im sure someone can give u a link on how to do this...not to hard, just pry around perimeter slowly as u dont want to gouge the important stuff underneath the the plastic cover.
and of course, youll need more than stock cooling to get a good and safe overclock.
good luck!

A GFD is the easiest was to unlock the multipler on a Slot A CPU...
The hard way is to re-solder the PCB :p
Check out the link here on Athlon case removal...

The old slot-A CPU's don't have software multiplyer adjustment available. It has to be done by hardware modd's, be it the solder job or the GFD. Easyest is GFD, just remove the cover and plug it onto the debug connector. The are NO LOCKS or whatsoever, you are free to go then.

After you get the case off your Slot A Athlon, I highly recommend this GFD:
Northwind GFD Rev. 3 (http://www.northwindcomputers.com)
You get it for $27.95, shipped!!

Well i thought it pritty obvious that it was slot A? (if i needed a gold finger)
Anyway thanks for the help will try to find one somewhere.
As i am in australia and the links i have recived cost to much in shiping for my budget
One last question what would a good speed be to try for a600Mhz Athlon? without needing another fan? Nor worroy of frying it? although i have two fans on my heatsink already i am prone to thinking they don't cool all that much more then one fan. (as it is a crap fan)
Thanks again guys
Oh Yeah and it is a GA-7VX M/B With a Slot A 600Mhz AMD Athlon.

Hey hey... I'm in Australia too - Sydney...
Bought mine from http://www.eyo.com.au when they used to stock them.... Hard to find now... Although I'd still check on eBay (locally) & what not...
Depends on the core though in terms of the limits... I'd say 800MHz shouldn't be a problem...

try this site http://www.northwindcomputers.com, also yo0ur l2 cache is at 1/2 divisor so its at 300mhz once you get the chip to 900 you need to set the l2 divisor to 1/3 that way its still at 300mhz-running too far out of spec could cause a no POST- here is a program that will set the l2 cache speed

I don't know what kind of heatsink you have, what temps you are running. But most important is what core do you have? is it a 0.18 or 0.25um sample?? A 0.25 at 700 runs about 70 watts, where a 0.18um will only do 50 watts, that's quite a difference! You will feel this in you temps too.
Temps are important for the speed you will reach, don't underestimate that! So you will need to have an idea of your temps. Telling us what cooler you have will do, giving us temps is even better.
Speeds? 0.25um aboout 700 and 0.18um about 800 without much trouble.
HOW TO: see what core you have: look at the cover of your athlon, at the top side there is a serial number, it looks like this (the grey numbers after the white 'amd athlon processor'): AMD-K7500MTR51B C. You see the big C at the end? C stands for 0.25 um core, A for 0.18um core. Good luck finding an A over there :D

I ordered the same one from ebay! I have problem though with my amd900 tbird slot a. When i overclock it to 1000mhz i t work fine in windows and 100 percent stable but when i run unreal T or elite force or and 3d power games i get problems. The game will drop half frame rates and go oddly slow. The game however never locks out once when playing. i switched out all parts ie. vid card , memory . and have determined it to be the gfd or temp problems. I have to run it at 1.85 volts on the gfd to run at 1000mhz but oddly the bios reports it as 1.87 volts. my cpu temps run 41-43 c in cpucool and in bios it could be up to 7-8c higher. I took off the GFD and everything is working perfectly , i have no idea what it could be.
its not the powersupply

LOL i got an A so that is good :) also i will tell you the temps and all that.
CPU TEMP=38º
SYS TEMP=27º
CPU FAN SPEED=6200rpm
Vcore=1.58v
Vcache=3.19v
Vcc3=3.19v
+5.000v=4.88v
+12.000v=11.82
That should be every thing so what do you think?
