Building a system for a friend of mine, an AMD 3000+ based system. Just wondering what you guys would reccomend for this hot proc, trying to spend around $30 maximum (SLK and Swifty series are out obviously). Won't be overclocked (yet), however stock just isn't good enough.

I was thinking possibly an SK-6+ or SK-7 (from CrazyPC), as well as a 32.5 cfm fan (generic). SF2 is just too pricey for this application.

Anything new down the pipe within the price range?

I'd say the SK7 would be the best. Probably the only other alternative is the Coolermaster Aero7+, but it's not as good as the SK7.

I thought SK7 was long outdated for later Athlons. However, is it still a good performer ?

I got a thermalright slk-900a for my 2500+, and it's awesome :D

I can't think of any heatsink that beats the SK7 for under $30.

the Vantec Aeroflow might do it if they had the same fan. not sure though.
